The term of one Nevada Court of Appeals justice expired on January 3, 2021. The one seat was up for nonpartisan election on November 3, 2020. A full term on the court is six years.

Nonpartisan primary election

The primary election was canceled. Incumbent Bonnie Bulla and Susan Bush advanced from the primary for Nevada Court of Appeals.

The three inaugural judges of the court, after their initial two-year appointments, stood for election in 2016. Each was unopposed and appeared on the general election ballot on November 8.

Selection

The Nevada Court of Appeals at its creation consisted of three judges who were nominated by the judicial selection commission and selected by the governor. These judges serve an initial two-year term and then must stand for re-election if they wish to continue to serve. After the initial term of the first judges, judges are chosen by election.[1]

Qualifications

To serve on the court of appeals, a judge must be:

  • a qualified elector;
  • a state resident for at least two years;
  • a minimum age of 25;
  • licensed and admitted to practice law in Nevada;
  • a licensed attorney for at least 15 years, with at least two in Nevada[2][3]
