The county government of New York County does not have a county seat as one of the five boroughs of New York City. New York County is the state designation for the Borough of Manhattan.[2] The county was first established in 1683. It covers a total of 22.8 square miles in eastern New York.[3]

New York County residents elect a borough president and a district attorney.
