The Michigan Public Service Commission is a three-member body in the Michigan state government responsible for the regulation of energy, telecommunications, and transportation services.[1] The duties of the Public Service Commission include establishing fair and reasonable rates for the state's energy, telecommunications, and transportation services, and the safe and efficient production and distribution of regulated services.

Appointments
Three members of the public service commission are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Michigan State Senate. Commissioners serve six-year staggered terms. The governor designates the chairman. No more than two members can be of the same political party.[1]

Duties
The duties of the Public Service Commission include:[1]
- Establishing fair and reasonable rates for regulated services and adopting and administering fair terms and conditions of service for the state's utility customers.
- Assuring adequate and reliable supplies of regulated services to all Michigan customers, and the safe and efficient production, distribution, and use of the state's energy, telecommunications, and transportation services.
- Assuring the security of the state's critical infrastructure by promoting homeland security.
- Promoting the state's economic growth and enhancing the quality of life of its communities through adoption of new technologies like broadband telecommunications and efficient renewable energy resources.
- Providing customers with the opportunity to choose alternative electric, natural gas, telecommunications, and transportation providers.
- Providing regulatory oversight in a prudent and efficient manner while implementing legislative and constitutional requirements.
