Maryland Circuit Court
The Maryland Circuit Courts are the courts of general jurisdiction in Maryland.
Jurisdiction
The Maryland Circuit Court "generally handles more serious criminal cases, major civil cases, including juvenile and other family law cases such as divorce, custody and child support". The circuit court also hears most appeals from the Maryland District Court, orphans’ courts and administrative agencies. Circuit Court cases may be before a judge or a jury.[1]
Appeals of Circuit Court decisions go to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.
Circuits
There are eight circuits in Maryland. Each county and the City of Baltimore has a circuit court.[1]
