Mary Kay Becker was a judge on the Washington Court of Appeals, Division I. She was elected to this position in 1994 and spent two years as the chief judge of Division I and one term as the presiding chief judge of the court of appeals.[1] She was re-elected by voters in 2000, 2006, and 2012. Her term ended on January 13, 2019.
Education
Becker earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.[1]
Career
After moving to Bellingham in 1969, Judge Becker began her career as a paralegal for Northwest Washington Legal Services. From 1975 to 1983, she served as a Washington Representative for the 42nd district. She earned her law degree in 1982 and worked as a private practice lawyer until 1994, when she was appointed to the court of appeals. She has also worked as a member of the Whatcom County Council and as the chair of Western Washington University's Board of Trustees.[1]
