S. Malcolm O. Harrison was a judge for the Seventh Judicial District of Mississippi. He was appointed by Republican Haley Barbour to replace Judge Bobby DeLaughter, who pleaded guilty to bribery charges. Harrison was the first black judge that Barbour has appointed. His term began on November 2, 2009.[1] He was sworn in on October 30, 2009.[2]

Harrison said of his appointment, "I interviewed with Governor Barbour and he called me Monday, and I was completely floored. It was unexpected. It was very humbling that by the grace of God that it came about."[3]

Education

Harrison graduated from Jackson State University in 1991. He earned his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1994, and was admitted to the Mississippi bar the next year.[4]

Career

Harrison has served as a prosecuting attorney for Hinds County since he was elected on November 2, 1999. He is also a partner in the firm of Harrison & Flowers, PLLC in Jackson, and serves as the city prosecutor for Bolton, Mississippi.[1][4]

2010 election

Harrison ran for re-election, but was defeated by William A. Gowan in the general election, winning only 49% of the vote.[5][6]
