Mack Bernard (Democratic Party) is a member of the Florida State Senate, representing District 24. He assumed office on November 5, 2024. His current term ends on November 3, 2026.
Bernard (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the Florida State Senate to represent District 24. He declared candidacy for the 2026 election.
Biography
Mack Bernard was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He earned a high school diploma from Atlantic High School, a bachelor's degree in political science and criminal justice from Florida State University in 1997, a law degree from the University of Florida in 2002, and an LL.M. in taxation from Florida State University in 2003. Bernard's career experience includes working as an attorney specializing in real estate and tax law. Bernard was a Delray Beach city commissioner and deputy vice mayor in 2008. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2009 to 2012, where he was the president of the Palm Beach County Caucus of Black Elected Officials. Bernard became a Palm Beach County commissioner in 2016, serving terms as county mayor and county vice mayor.[1]
Bernard has been affiliated with and held leadership positions in the following groups: the board of Leadership Florida (secretary and treasurer); Palm Beach County Homeless Advisory Board (chair); Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (past chair and vice chair); Toussaint L’Ouverture High School for Arts and Social Justice (past chair); Color of Hope Foundation, (board member); 211 Palm Beach Treasure Coast (board member); CJ Foundation, Inc. (board member); Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce (board member); and the Marie Louise Community Foundation, Inc. (board member).[1]
Bernard was recognized in 2024 as Housing Hero of the Year by the Housing Leadership Council of Palm Beach County.[1]

2024
A special primary election for Florida State Senate District 24 was called for August 20, 2024.[2] The primary and general election were not needed as only one candidate filed to run.[3] The filing deadline was June 11.[4]
The special election was called after Bobby Powell (D) announced his intention to resign on November 4, 2024, in order to run for Palm Beach County Commission.[5]
General election
The general election was canceled. Mack Bernard (D) won without appearing on the ballot.

Bernard ran in the 2012 election for Florida State Senate District 27. Bernard was defeated by Jeff Clemens in the Democratic primary on August 14, 2012.[6]

Bernard ran for re-election to the 84th District seat in 2010. He did not have any opposition in the August 24 primary. Bernard defeated Albert Key (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[7]
