Linda M. Vanzi is a former judge on the New Mexico Court of Appeals. She served on the court from 2008 to 2020 and was the chief judge of the court from January 2017 to January 2019.[1]
Vanzi was first appointed to the court by Democratic Governor Bill Richardson on October 29, 2008, and took office on November 1, 2008.[2] She won election to the court in 2010 and was retained in 2014.[3] Vanzi retired from the bench on May 29, 2020.[4][5]
Vanzi was a finalist for the vacancy on the New Mexico Supreme Court created by Justice Richard Bosson's October 30, 2015 retirement.[6]
Education
Vanzi received her undergraduate degree in English and French from Marymount College in 1977 and her J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1995.[7]
Career
Before she was appointed to the bench, Vanzi worked as an attorney. Most of her cases dealt with civil rights, employment law, domestic relations, personal injury, or commercial law. She was appointed to the Second Judicial District Court in 2004, where she served until her appointment to the court of appeals in 2008.[7]

Vanzi was retained to the Court of Appeals with 72.9 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [3]

Vanzi was elected to the court of appeals in 2010. She defeated Dennis Montoya in the Democratic primary with 53.5% of the vote.[8][9] She ran unopposed in the general election and received 100% of the vote.[10]
