Biography

Leticia Munguia was born in San Diego, California. She earned a high school diploma from Samuel Gompers Secondary School, an associate degree from San Diego City College in 1992, a bachelor's degree from San Diego State University in 1995, and a law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School-Lansing in 2003. Her career experience includes working as a human resources manager. Munguia has been affiliated with the Society for Human Resources Management, Chula Vista Democratic Club, Run Women Run, MANA of San Diego County, and EMERGE California.[1]

The daughter of working class parents, Leticia Munguia has spent her career advocating improving public education, expanding access healthcare, build stronger and safe communities, and ensuring equity in the workplace. Organizing Stronger Communities Leticia spent decades as a community organizer where she was a tireless advocate for working families. Her real-world experience is an invaluable asset that she will bring to our city council, serving our community effectively and passionately. While attending law school, Leticia managed the Department of Justice’s Domestic Violence Program and developed a Spanish speaking outreach and communications campaign. Leticia worked at the San Diego County Alternate Public Defender’s Office ensuring representation in the justice system for everyone. She was the first Latina investigator hired by the San Diego Alternate Public Defender. Fighting for Economic Security Leticia has been a leader in organizing workers and communities to ensure fair wages, retirement security and access to healthcare. At the MAAC Project, Leticia developed and implemented community outreach and engagement campaigns in some of our region’s most underrepresented communities. She worked to build up affordable housing stock, increase civic engagement and train youth and recent immigrants on how to access resources.

  • Defend Health Care and Reproductive Rights! The only Chula Vista City Council candidate endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
  • Better traffic safety and improve 911 response times and stop the smash-grab robberies.
  • Support and work to ensure that Chula Vista's quality of life and build housing our working families can afford.

Maintaining and improving our quality of life is critical to Chula Vista and especially District 3. We
need to secure investments from the state and federal government in our parks and recreation
spaces, strengthen our transportation infrastructure, ensure every Chula Vista family lives in safe,
thriving neighborhoods. 4 Year University Development and the development of job training
centers is also important to me. South County must have access to medical facilities, hospitals that
are clean, safely maintained and appropriately staff is critical to access south of the HWY 8.

US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor as the 1st Latina Supreme Court Justice in US History and admire her dedication, determination and advocacy. There is others such as Congressional Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard who created a path the way for so many others in Los Angeles County. Madeline Albright a diplomat, politician and writer.
