Kitty K. Brennan was a judge on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District I. She was appointed to the court by Democratic Governor Jim Doyle on August 21, 2008.[1][2] Brennan retired on September 6, 2019.[3]
Education
Brennan received her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972 and her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1977.[2]
Career
Upon graduation from law school, Brennan served as the assistant district attorney for Milwaukee County until 1984. From 1984 to 1994, she was in private practice with the firm Murphy & Brennan in South Milwaukee, handling a general practice.[4] Brennan was elected to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in 1994 and re-elected in 2000 and 2006. She was assigned to the civil division, where she presided over large claims and civil and probate cases. In 2008, she was appointed by Governor Doyle to serve on the court of appeals.[2]
Awards and associations
Judge of the Year
On February 28, 2006, Judge Brennan was the recipient of the State Bar of Wisconsin's 2005 Judge of the Year Award. The annual award "recognizes a jurist who has improved the judicial system during the past year by providing leadership in advancing the quality of justice, judicial education, or innovative programs".
"This award recognizes Judge Brennan's exceptional efforts in preserving the integrity of the judiciary," said Hon. Daniel M. Floeter, Bench and Bar Committee Chair. "She has exhibited leadership, courage and conviction to achieve change and promote the quality of justice in the Milwaukee court system and raise the public's awareness about the critical role our court system plays in society."[4]
Associations
When she served on the court, Brennan had been an active member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bar Association, and the Association for Women Lawyers. She was a member of the Wisconsin and Milwaukee Trial Judges Associations.[4]

Brennan was re-elected without opposition to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals District I in 2015. Wisconsin's general judicial election was held on April 7, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates was January 6, 2015.[5][6]
