Issues
Political philosophy
Gehosky made the following statement to Ballotpedia regarding his political philosophy:[1]
“ |
I am a republican who believes the best guarantor of individual liberty is a large and diverse population, all of whom can fully participate in the political system. My beliefs adhere to the social contract theory described by John Locke and advanced by American Revolutionary Era statesmen including Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington. This Founding Generation of writers and politicians articulated the bedrock principles of our Constitution. Limited government was to be achieved by so dividing the powers of government that no single faction, party or ideology would be able to obtain and maintain a hold on the entire government apparatus. In this way individual liberty would be protected. Today, however, political parties accumulate so much power at all levels of government that this protection is threatened. I run for office to counter this trend and to restore humility, civility and objectivity to our political system. My principle ambitions as a candidate and senator, if elected, will be 1) to authorize an independent commission to be responsible for drawing objective and non-partisan legislative and senatorial districts, 2) to challenge rules in the state Senate that result in taxpayer subsidies to political parties, 3) restore humble, civil and objective public service to our state government.
