Campaign themes
2014
Chellew's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Education
- Excerpt: "Corbett’s budget proposes further cuts to basic education and cuts higher education by 20 to 30 percent. I am opposed to this strategy because investing in education is proven to strengthen our economy and preserve our local communities. Our schools cannot afford further cuts in investing in our children’s future."
Property Tax Reform
- Excerpt: "Karen will work with a bipartisan perspective to find a formula for school funding that provides for a reduction in property taxes and a property tax cap for our seniors."
Jobs
- Excerpt: "Karen will fight for a broader policy of tax incentives for companies so that they will set up shop and grow in Pennsylvania. Karen’s extensive business experience right here in the 145th district allows her to know and understand the needs of our people and businesses in a way that allows for growth and success."
Marcellus Shale/Fracking
- Excerpt: "We need to return power to local government, impose a drilling tax and protect our public lands by imposing a moratorium on gas leases in our state forests."
Economy
- Excerpt: "Small ‘Mom n’ Pop’ businesses are the backs upon which our vast economy is built. These companies deserve the very best support that Pennsylvania, and our community can afford to give, and Karen understands from her experience with Weber Kracht & Chellew how necessary this support is to our district."
