Fifth Circuit

Joseph Clay, Jr. was a judge on the United States Circuit Court for the Fifth Circuit. He was nominated by John Adams on February 23, 1801. He was confirmed by the Senate on February 24, 1801, and received commission that same day. He served until July 1, 1802, when his service was ended due to abolition of the court.

District Court of Georgia

Joseph Clay, Jr. was previously a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of Georgia. He was nominated by President George Washington on December 21, 1796. He was confirmed by the Senate on December 27, 1796, and received commission on January 2, 1797. He served until February 24, 1801.
