Joseph C. Calabrese is a judge for the Nassau County Court in New York. He has served in this position since 1994, following his election. His current term ends in 2013. He was also appointed an Acting Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in 2005.[1][2]
Education
Calabrese received his B.B.A. degree in Public Accounting from St. John's University in 1966 and his J.D. degree from the St. John's University School of Law in 1971.[1]
Career
Calabrese began his career in 1972 as an Assistant District Attorney for Nassau County. He then worked for the Town of Hempstead as an Assistant Town Attorney from 1975 to 1977 and as General and Labor Counsel for Sanitary District No. 6 from 1977 to 1985. He also worked as a private practice lawyer from 1976 to 1984.
Calabrese's judicial career began in 1985 when he joined the Nassau County District Court. He worked in that position until 1993. He also served as an acting judge of the Nassau County Court (1986), an acting Presiding Judge of the District Court (1992) and an acting judge of the Surrogate's Court. In 1994, he joined the County Court and, in 2005, he was appointed an Acting Supreme Court Justice.[1]
