John Daniel Mahoney (September 7, 1931 - October 23, 1996) was a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He joined the court in 1986 after an appointment from Ronald Reagan. At the time of his appointment, he was a private practice attorney in New York City. His service ended on October 23, 1996 with his death.[1]

Judicial career

Second Circuit

Mahoney was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit by Ronald Reagan on February 7, 1986 to a newly-created seat on the court. He was subsequently confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 27, 1986, receiving his commission on April 7, 1986. His service ended on October 23, 1996 with his death.[1] He was succeeded to this post by Sonia Sotomayor.
