John F. O'Donnell was a judge for the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District in Erie County, New York. He served from 1996 until his retirement from the court in 2019. Since 2003, he has been the Presiding Justice of the Integrated Domestic Violence Part in Erie County, New York.

Education

O'Donnell received his B.S. degree from Canisius College in 1967 and his J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1970./

Career

O'Donnell began his career in 1971 as a private practice lawyer. He then became a confidential law clerk to New York Supreme Court Justice John Callahan in 1974. From 1979 to 1985, he served Erie County Family Court Judge John Honan as a confidential law clerk. He then worked as a New York Hearing Examiner until 1987.

O'Donnell began his judicial career in 1988 when he joined the Erie County Family Court bench. He served on this court through 1995. He also served as an Acting Supreme Court Justice (1993 to 1995), a Domestic Violence Coordinating Judge for the 8th Judicial District (1992 to 1995), and a Supervising Family Court Judge of the 8th Judicial District (1992 to 1995). In 1996, he was elected to the Supreme Court.
