Jerry L. Fielding (b. May 9, 1947) is a former Republican member of the Alabama State Senate, representing District 11 from 2010 to 2014.

Fielding was elected as a Democrat, but officially switched political parties on October 4, 2012.[1] Fielding said the political landscape has changed for conservative Democrats and they can no longer run as "Alabama Democrats."[1] "For a long time, us Southern Democrats could disassociate ourselves from those liberal things that happened in Washington, D.C., and other places. The election of 2010 stopped all that. People now believe if you are a Democrat, you are the same here as you are in Washington, D.C."[1]

Biography

Fielding worked for Avondale Mills from 1966 to 1974 while attending college and law school. He then worked as partner of the firm of Bell, Lang, Bell and Fielding from 1974 to 1978. For the next 26 years, Fielding served as a district and circuit judge.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Alabama

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
