Gilbert Nares was an associate justice on the Fourth District, Division One of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by Governor George Deukmejian and took the oath of office on October 13, 1988. He was retained by voters in 2002 and in 2014.[1][2]  Nares retired on August 30, 2019.[3]

Education

Nares received his bachelor's degree in economics and philosophy from the University of San Diego in 1964. He received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1967.[4]

Career

Nares began his legal career in 1968, working for the law firm Daubney, Banche, Patterson & Nares. In 1976, he was appointed to the San Diego County Municipal Court and two years later, he was elevated to the Superior Court of San Diego County. He served on this court until his appointment to the California Fourth District Court of Appeal.[4]

Nares was retained to the 4th District Court of Appeal with 71.4 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014.[2]
