Gilbert Martinez was a judge of the Colorado 4th Judicial District. He left office on July 31, 2017.
Martinez served as chief presiding judge of the court twice—first from 1994 to 2007 and again from February 9, 2012, until his retirement. Martinez passed away on November 2, 2023.[1]
Biography
Martinez was born and raised in Colorado. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in civil engineering and from the University of Colorado Law School with a J.D. Martinez worked as a public defender from 1978 until his judicial appointment in 1989. During this time, he directed the Colorado Springs Public Defender's Office for four years.[2][3]

Colorado held judicial retention elections in 2016. Fifty-eight district court judges sought retention to six-year terms in the general election on November 8, 2016.
