Essexville City General Levy Increase (November 2011)
An Essexville City General Levy Increase measure was on the November 8, 2011 ballot in the City of Essexville which is in Bay County.
This measure was approved
- YES 458 (51.35%)
- NO 434 (48.65%)[1]
This measure sought to increase the general levy to a rate of 15 mills for an ongoing amount of time in order to further fund general municipal needs in the city.[2] City officials noted that without the tax addition, it would be hard for many municipal operations to be continued at their current level. Public safety cutbacks were a concern of the city, if the measure had not gotten approved. Some residents noted that additional taxes would not be good for the community, while others noted that the current level of service in the city need to be maintained so the tax would be beneficial.[3]

The question on the ballot:
| An amendment to Section 15.8 of Article XV of the City Charter to increase the authorized maximum millage from ten (10) mills to fifteen (15) mills which may be levied annually by the City Council for General Municipal purposes. This amendment would increase the Charter limit from 10 mills to 15 mills upon a 5/7ths affirmative vote of the Council and would be first levied in 2012.[4] |
