Ellis Black (Republican Party) was a member of the Georgia State Senate, representing District 8. Black assumed office on January 12, 2015. Black left office on January 10, 2021.
Black (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Georgia State Senate to represent District 8. Black won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Black previously served in the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 174 from 2001 to 2015. He served as chair of the Lowndes County Board of Education from 1992 to 1996.
Biography
Black's professional experience includes working as a farmer, businessman, operator of Black's Fertilizer and Farm Supply, manager of Langdale Farms, teacher with the Ware County Board of Education, and extension agent with Ware County Extension Service.
Party switch
Following his re-election as a Democrat in the 2010 general election, Black switched to the Republican Party.[1]

Elections for the Georgia State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with a runoff election taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Bikram K. Mohanty was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while C. Ellis Black and John P. Page advanced past Richard David Raines in the Republican primary. Black faced Page in a runoff election on July 22, 2014, which Black won. Mohanty was defeated by Black in the general election.[6][7][8][9]

Black ran in the 2012 election for Georgia House of Representatives District 174. Black ran unopposed in the Republican primary on July 31, 2012. Teresa Lawrence ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[10] Black defeated Teresa Lawrence in the general election.[11]

Black ran for re-election to the 174th District seat in 2010. He did not have any opposition in the July 20 primary or in the general election on November 2, 2010.[12]

Black is a member of the Brook's County, Echols County, Lake Park and Lowndes County Historical Societies, Clyattville United Methodist Church, President of the Lowndes County Farm Bureau of the Masons-Shrine, Southeast Agriculture Coalition, and coach with the Young Men's Christian Association.[16]
