Douglas County Sales Tax Extension (2009)
The Douglas County Sales Tax Extension was a ballot measure that was on the August 18, 2009 ballot in Douglas County for county voters and residents in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee. The East Wenatchee city council voted 5-1 in favor of a resolution supporting the measure on June 23, 2009, citing a need for an increase in sales tax.
The measure was approved.[1]
The ballot measure, supported and proposd by the area's 911 center, RiverCom, will increase the sales tax in the area in order to pay for new equipment used by the organization. RiverCom's proposal called for a .10 of a percent sales tax increase on residents.
Some East Wenatchee councilmembers voiced concerns about the estimated $100,000 it would take to place the measure on the ballot. However, Councilman Wayne Barnhart, who sits on the RiverCom board, stated that the center took the cost into careful consideration.[2][3]
