Dereck Davis is the Maryland Treasurer. He assumed office on December 17, 2021. His current term ends on February 1, 2027.
Davis (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Maryland House of Delegates to represent District 25. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Davis was appointed as the Maryland Treasurer to replace Nancy K. Kopp who resigned in December 2021.[1]
Davis was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates for 27 years, representing Prince George's County, Maryland, following his general election victory in November 1994. He last won re-election to represent District 25 on November 6, 2018. For 19 years he was the chair of the House Economic Matters Committee.[2]
Biography
Davis graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1989 and a master’s degree in public policy in 1999. In addition to his political career, Davis worked for the Prince George's County Office of Community Relations in Prince George's County, Maryland; for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission; for the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation; and as a legislative aide for the Prince George's County Council.[3][4] He was a member of the United Communities Against Poverty and the Coalition of Concerned Black Christian Men.[5][6]

Davis ran in the 2016 election for the U.S. House to represent Maryland's 4th District. He withdrew before the Maryland filing deadline.[8]
2014
Elections for the Maryland House of Delegates took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Incumbent Dereck E. Davis, Angela Angel and Darryl Barnes defeated Nick Charles, Geraldine "Gerry" Eggleston, Matthew Fogg, Larry F. Greenhill, Tony Jones, Juanita D. Miller and Stanley Onye in the Democratic primary and were unopposed in the general election.[9][10][11]
2010
Davis successfully won re-election in the general election on November 2, 2010. He took the second of three seats in the district. No Republicans filed for the seat.[12]

On November 7, 2006, Dereck Davis ran for District 25 of the Maryland House of Delegates, winning the third of three seats, losing to Aisha Braveboy and Melony Griffith but beating Patrick Schaeffer, Jr., and David Kiasi.[13]
