David Friedman is a judge for the 1st Department of the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division. He assumed office in 1999. His current term ends on December 31, 2026.
Friedman is also a judge of the New York Supreme Court 2nd Judicial District. He assumed office on January 1, 2012. His current term ends on January 1, 2026.

Friedman was re-elected to the Supreme Court 2nd Judicial District on November 8th with 18 percent of the vote. He was cross-endorsed by the Democratic, Republican and Conservative parties. Other successful candidates for the six open seats on the court were: Justice Lawrence S. Knipel, Justice Betsy Barros, Acting Justice Johnny Lee Baynes, Acting Justice Rachel Adams, and Carl J. Landicino.[1][2][3]
Biography and Education
Judge Friedman was born in 1950. He earned a B.S. degree in mathematics from Brooklyn College in 1971 and a J.D. degree from New York Law School in 1975.[4][5]
Career
Judge Friedman began his legal career in 1974 as a student clerk for the New York State Attorney General's Office. From 1976 to 1980, he was an assistant in the State Supreme Court Appellate Division, Second Department. He then worked for approximately one year for Appellate Division Justice Henry Martuscello. From 1981 to 1990, he worked as a law secretary to Supreme Court Justice Nicholas Clemente. He was appointed to the Kings County Civil Court in January of 1990 and he judged in this position until the end of 1993, when he became an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court, Kings County. He became a Supreme Court Justice in January of 1998.[4][5]
