David Bridges was a Republican judge for Place 6 of the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals. He served on the court from 1996 to 2020. Bridges died while in office on July 25, 2020.[1]
Bridges was running for re-election to the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals when he died. He had advanced from the Republican primary on March 3, 2020. Because of the timing of his death, Republican Party precinct chairs from his district were permitted to nominate a replacement candidate to the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2020.[2] The local Republican Party precinct chairs selected John Browning to replace Bridges on the general election ballot.[3]
Biography
David Bridges graduated from Rains High School in 1973. Bridges served in the United States Army. He earned an associate degree from Tyler Junior College in 1978, a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from University of Texas at Tyler in 1980, and a J.D. from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 1984.
Bridges' career experience included working as a prosecutor for the Smith County District Attorney's office, as the assistant district attorney for Upshur County, and first as senior trial attorney and then as first assistant and chief of litigation for the State Bar. In 1996 Bridges won the primary for Rockwall County judge but withdrew when he won the Republican Party county nomination for the Dallas Court of Appeals.[4][5]
