Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Hardy's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Get Money Out of Politics: Charlie has taken a stand against money and corruption in politics. Charlie believes money is not equal to free speech. He believes that our representatives should listen to people.
  • Raise the Minimum Wage: Charlie believes in raising the federal minimum wage to make it a living wage. When he was growing up, a person working a 40/hour week could support a family. Today, millions of Americans work two or three jobs and still can’t. Working families go deep into debt and often need food stamps. How is it that CEOs of major corporations earn tens of millions of dollars a year, while the salaries of hard-working Americans have stagnated?
  • Support Our Veterans: Charlie supports legislation that would have provided medical care, educational opportunities and other support to our veterans. It is shameful that our elected leaders have sent our young Americans into wars and then refused to give them care when they have returned. Many veterans are homeless without support in finding jobs and in dealing with trauma suffered during combat. How can our leaders give billions of dollars in subsidies to Wall Street banks while we have veterans who have fought and bled for our freedom unable to access medical care and other support? This is unacceptable. Caring for our veterans needs to be a top priority.
  • Stop Costly Foreign Entanglements: One of the major reasons we have a national debt is because the leadership of both the Republicans and Democrats led us into costly and senseless wars that have cost us trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives. Since 9/11, we’ve made more enemies than friends in the world and we aren’t any safer. It is time to stop foreign entanglements and start nation building at home. We have to build and rebuild bridges, transit, roads, pipelines, smart power grids, better manufacturing centers, and etc. here at home.
  • Get Government Out of our Private Lives: Concrete evidence has revealed that the government is spying on everyone, not just the bad guys. Every email, text and telephone call is being run through their system and much of it is being stored. That includes intimate communications with our loved ones, medical records and every website we go to. This is an Orwellian violation of our constitutional rights, civil liberties, right of privacy and human decency. Enough is enough. The NSA should be leashed or abolished.[6]
