Charles B. Mikell was a judge on the Georgia Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the court in May of 2000 and was retained by voters in 2002 and 2008.[1][2] He retired from the court on August 31, 2012.[3]
In 2011, he was elected Chief Judge by his peers on the court. He served from November 2011 to December 2011.[4]
Military service
After receiving his bachelor's degree in 1963, Mikell served for five years in the U.S. Army, stationed in various parts of Europe and Vietnam.[1]
Education
Mikell graduated from Princeton University in 1963. He attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina for a degree in Central European History. He taught at Atlantic State University in 1973 and 1974, and then graduated from the University of Georgia Law School in 1976.[1]
Career
After law school, Charles Mikell practiced law in Savannah until 1985, when he was appointed to the State Court of Chatham County. He was the Chief Judge on this court from 1989 to 1992. He was then elected to the Superior Court of Chatham County, a position he held until his appointment to the Court of Appeal.[1]
