Campaign website
Clark's campaign website stated the following:
“ |
Fight for Small Businesses and Consumers “We are all consumers, whether as individuals or as businesses in the marketplace. Scams and deception have no place in Vermont, and I will fight to protect Vermonters.” Through its Consumer Assistance Program, the Attorney General is the first line of defense of Vermont consumers. As Chief of Staff of the Attorney General’s Office, I supervised this program, and I bring on-point insights to this crucial role of the Attorney General. I will use these insights to prevent scams, fight illegal robocalls, and address the emerging challenge of cryptocurrency. As the daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of small-town Vermont grocers, I have seen the challenges facing small businesses. I will enhance the work of the Attorney General’s Small Business Initiative to assist these businesses, which are the backbone of Vermont.
“As Attorney General, I will work hard to safeguard Vermont’s beautiful forests, lakes, and streams – the soul of Vermont. I will be an enthusiastic partner for compliance with the climate goals set out in the Vermont Climate Action Plan.” I am passionate about preserving and protecting Vermont’s natural environment. As Attorney General, I will use creative solutions to address climate change. I will use my experience leading at the Attorney General’s Office to guide Vermont when environmental challenges, like PCBs in schools, arise. I will also use my voice as Attorney General to lift up those most impacted by hazardous waste, pollution, and climate disasters: Vermonters of low-income and communities of color.
“Public safety is paramount. Everyone deserves to be safe and feel safe in their communities. Our criminal justice system must realign with Vermont’s values. As your Attorney General, I will prioritize public safety while advocating for common-sense reforms to our justice system.” More than half of criminal cases handled by the Attorney General’s Office involve one type of crime: child pornography. As Attorney General, I will ensure that the team investigating and prosecuting these heinous crimes have the resources they need to do this critical work protecting children. I will also use my voice in support of addressing bias in the criminal justice system by advocating for increased data collection related to racial disparities; requiring anti-bias training for criminal justice practitioners; requiring funding for mental health and substance abuse treatment; and transforming our cash bail system to a risk-based system. My first criminal justice reform priority will be expanding access to criminal record sealings or expungements. By giving Vermonters who have paid their debt and have lived free of trouble a chance at a fresh start, we create greater economic, educational, and social opportunities.
“The Attorney General is Vermont’s last remaining statewide office for which Vermont has never elected a woman. I will bring renewed focus — and this critical perspective — to the issues of domestic and intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and reproductive freedoms.” As Attorney General, I will implement my plan in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling overturning Roe v. Wade to make Vermont a safe harbor for people seeking abortions and to protect healthcare providers. More about my multi-layered plan can be found here. I will advocate zealously for the recommendations made by the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Commission, housed at the Attorney General’s Office. This includes passing a statute codifying that judges can remove firearms from domestic abusers and making sure that victims of domestic violence are provided a safe escort if they need to return to the home.[2] |
