2014

Hayden's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[11]

Private Sector Solutions Needed in Health Care

  • Excerpt: "My wife and I are expecting our fifth child this July. We have worked hard and planned ahead. But, like millions of Americans, we too recently received a letter saying that because of government intervention that insurance policy may end. What I want to know is does the government really know what’s better for my family than we do? Again, government is not the solution."

Market-Based Job Creation

  • Excerpt: "I’ve found that my business ventures have done the best at both turning a profit and benefiting our employees when we did not have to spend significant time and other resources navigating through government paperwork and policies. Even the best intentions behind regulations often don’t result in the greater good. This is most obvious in rural areas like ours where legislation and regulations created with ostensibly good intentions have resulted in dramatically reduced timber harvests and thus job losses."

Individual Freedom and Rights

  • Excerpt: "We’re also very familiar with government overreach in our area when it comes to the right to bear arms. Thankfully, this right has not been taken away. But the pressure for the government to limit our 2nd Amendment rights is strong, and as your State Representative I will fight to block efforts by politicians in Portland and Eugene from taking away our gun rights."

Educating for our Future

  • Excerpt: "And as parents with kids in school, Julie and I understand the challenges that our schools face to provide a quality education. I want to see a serious effort to reduce class sizes and provide every student the opportunity and resources they need to read by the time they are in third grade."

Ineligibility for re-election (2023)

See also: Noteworthy state legislative walkouts

On February 1, 2024, the Oregon Supreme Court ruled to uphold the decision of the Oregon Secretary of State to disqualify the 10 members of the Oregon State Senate from seeking re-election.[12]

On August 8, 2023, Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade (D) announced that ten legislators who participated in the walkout would be barred from re-election in 2024 under Oregon Measure 113.[13]

In a statement, Senate Minority Leader Tim Knopp (R) said "We believe the plain language of Measure 113 allows for members to run again in 2024 elections. We disagree with the Secretary of State’s determination and will challenge it in court.”[13]

On May 15, 2023, Senators Daniel Bonham (R), Dennis Linthicum (R), and Brian Boquist (I) became ineligible for re-election under Measure 113 when they accrued their 10th unexcused absence following a Republican walkout of the State Senate.[14] Oregon voters passed Measure 113 in 2022.

The walkout began on May 3, 2023, when all but two members of the Oregon Republican Senate caucus were absent from the legislative session preventing a quorum. As of June 1, the following 10 members of the Oregon State Senate involved with the walkout met the 10 unexcused absence threshold and are barred under Measure 113 from re-election:

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Oregon

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Oregon scorecards, email suggestions to [email protected].
