Rumsey said that she will work to create a job friendly environment, build sustainable funding for education, preserve the environment and natural resources, as well as avoid passing laws with unfunded mandates for cities and towns.[1]

2014
Elections for the Rhode Island State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 25, 2014. Incumbent Catherine Cool Rumsey was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Elaine Morgan was unopposed in the Republican primary. Cameron Ennis (I) was removed from the ballot before the primary. Morgan defeated Cool Rumsey in the general election.[6][7][8]
2012
Rumsey won election in the 2012 election for Rhode Island State Senate District 34. She was unopposed in the Democratic primary on September 11. Incumbent Francis Maher defeated Paul R. Mcfadden in the Republican primary. Rumsey defeated Maher in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[9][10][11]
