February

• An announcement is expected in February as to who will replace retiring justice Steven Levinson on the Hawaii Supreme Court.
• Ian McLachlan began his service on the Connecticut Supreme Court.
• February 2:

• Jimmy Maxwell was appointed to the Mississippi Court of Appeals.
• Alan Nevas at the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut announces his outright retirement.
• Douglas Shapiro was appointed to the Michigan Third District Court of Appeals.
• Alan Nevas retired from his position as a federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.

• February 4: Jon Levy was re-appointed to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
• February 6: Gudrun Rice, of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, retired.

• March 23:

• 'David Earl Durham joined the Criminal Court of the Fifteenth Judicial District, Tennessee.
• Deadline for the successor to Warren Matthews on the Alaska Supreme Court to be appointed.

• March 27: Rom A. Trader, of the O`ahu First Circuit Court, Hawaii, took office.
• March 31: Richard Caputo at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania assumes senior status.

April

• Sheila Abdus-Salaam joined the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court.
• April 1:

• David Hamilton of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana undergoes a full confirmation hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee as the first step in confirming President Obama's Nomination to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. The Hearing is scheduled for 2:30 PM-ET/11:30 AM-PT with the hearing being presented on a live webcast through the Senate Judiciary Committee's Website
• David Ritter, of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, resigned.
• Washington State Supreme Court asked by King County to re-hear Yousoufian v. Office of the King County Executive (2004) on grounds of conflict-of-interest of Richard Sanders

• April 2:

• Andre Davis nominated by President Barack Obama to a judgeship on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
• Gerard Lynch nominated by President Barack Obama to a judgeship on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

• April 3: Iowa Supreme Court in the matter of Varnum v. Brien upheld a 2007 District Court decision in Iowa ruling that Iowa's ban on gay marriage is ruled unconstitutional
• April 4: Marc Johnson was elected to the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal.
• April 5: Warren Matthews retires from Alaska Supreme Court and Morgan Christen joins the court in his former seat.
• April 7:

• Election for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court contested between Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson and Jefferson County Circuit Court judge Randy Koschnick.
• Shirley Abrahamson wins re-election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
• Elections in Wisconsin for judgeships in the Wisconsin Circuit Courts and Wisconsin Court of Appeals.

• April 8: Missouri House of Representatives votes to approve Missouri House Joint Resolution 10 which would make substantial changes to the Missouri Plan on a 85-72 vote.
• April 9: Robert Klausner received commission as a judge on the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
• April 14: Wendell Ellis Turner, justice of the peace of the Searchlight Township Justice Court in Nevada, died of a stroke.

• April 21:

• Vanessa Agee Jackson was appointed to the Fourteenth Judicial District, Tennessee.
• James Moran of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois passed away.
• Northern District of Illinois federal judge James Zagel will preside over the formal arraignment of impeached Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich in which the Governor is expected to enter a plea. The arriagnment is scheduled for 10:00 AM-CDT at the Everett Dirksen Courthouse in Downtown Chicago.

• April 22: Bethany Alvord was appointed to the Connecticut Appellate Court
• April 27: The State of Iowa recognizes same sex-marriage legally after the April 3, 2009 Iowa Supreme Court decision of Varnum v. Brien.
• April 28: The United States Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs held a confirmation hearing for former Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh.
• April 29:

• The Senate Judiciary Committee will have confirmation hearings for judicial nominees David Hamilton and Andre Davis. The hearing is scheduled at 2PM-EDT/11AM-PDT. A Webcast can viewed HERE

May

• Mark Pfeiffer was appointed to the Missouri Court of Appeals.
• May 1: Justice David Souter of the Supreme Court of the United States will announce his retirement effective at the end of June 2009.
• May 5: Robert Gettleman of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois assumed senior status.
• May 6:

• May 12: The United States Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs voted to allow former Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh face a confirmation vote in the United States Senate as State Department Legal Adviser.
• May 13: Kaye Hearn was elected to the South Carolina Supreme Court.
• May 15: New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine re-appoints Barry Albin to lifetime tenure on the New Jersey Supreme Court.
