I am a lifelong resident of Kent County and a fourth-generation farmer. A graduate from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business Management, I am a Managing Partner at the largest farmer owned and operated hopyard in the State of Michigan, where we provide necessary ingredients to the burgeoning craft beer industry. The farm has locations in Oakfield and Courtland townships.

I decided to run for office when our Governor made it a crime to go out and earn a paycheck. I stood up for West Michigan and against our Governor's overly restrictive lock-down, and I have the business experience we need to get Michigan back to work.

  • Jobs are Job #1
  • We must SAFELY reopen our economy NOW while we protect our most vulnerable
  • Its long past time to finally fix our infrastructure - prioritizing current resources

My grandpa and my dad have had by far the greatest impact on who I am as a person, and I have looked up to them for as long as I can remember. I have been so blessed in my life to have role models like those two men to show me daily what it means to lead with a servants heart, to live out compassion, and to live with integrity. They are big shoes to fill, but I hope to do just that!

The Conservative Mind - Russell Kirk
The Law - Frederic Bastiat
What Color is a Conservative - J.C. Watts

Integrity
Thoughtfulness
Character
Work Ethic
Transparency
Statesmanship

Integrity - I believe integrity is the most important characteristic for any elected official
Work Ethic - Owning and operating a farm requires 12-15 hour days. I will bring this work ethic with me to Lansing to ensure West Michigan has the representation it deserves.
Statesmanship - It's not enough to go to Lansing, we need some one that has the experience to get things accomplished in Lansing.
Servant Leadership - I am going am running for Representative to serve our district, and when I get to Lansing, I won't just represent West Michigan values, I will lead with them.

Represent the people of the district
Protect the US Constitution and Michigan Constitution
Help create an environment by which our economy can thrive
Expand educational opportunities that will prepare our children for 21st century jobs

The legacy I want to leave is simply the fact the our state is better for our children. I have always believed you should leave something better than it was when you found it, and that is exactly what I intend to do.

Team of Rivals - Doris Kearns Goodwin. One of my favorite Presidents is Abraham Lincoln, and this book does a phenomenal job of showing how he built his Cabinet out of opponents and adversaries. President Lincoln decided he didn't want his administration and closest advisors to be filled with those that always agreed with him - he wanted on built of those that would challenge him and help to make the country better. This book helped me better understand what true leadership is.

Standing Outside the Fire - Garth Brooks

In the past I faced the challenge of balance the time commitment of building my business. While sometimes requiring up to 18 hour days, fitting in things outside of work was sometimes difficult.

The most important experience a state legislator can have is experience in business. One of the most critical issues facing our state is our economy and getting Michigan back to work, especially post COVID. Having built from scratch the largest farmer owned and operated hopyard in the state of Michigan, I am the only candidate in this race with the business experience needed to get Michigan back to work.

The ideal relationship between the Governor and the Legislature is one where checks and balances are present - allowing the legislature to write bills, and the Governor to either sign them into law, or veto them.

Michigan's governor has destroyed our system of checks and balances and usurped legislative authority by issuing more executive orders than any other Governor in the Midwest. I stood up for West Michigan, and against our Governors overreach, and I will continue to do so in Lansing.

I have spoken with countless individuals throughout the district that have been put out of work due to the Governor's overly restrictive lock-down, as well as many business owners that don't know if they will ever be able to reopen their business. We need some one with business experience to go to Lansing and fight to get Michigan back to work.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Michigan

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
