Eggleston was previously a Republican candidate for District 16 representative on the New York City Council in New York. Eggleston was defeated in the general election on November 7, 2017. He also ran on the Conservative Party ballot line. Eggleston was also a 2016 Conservative Party candidate for District 77 of the New York State Assembly.

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 10, 2014. Latoya Joyner defeated Carlton A. Curry, Verdell Mack and Sherisse Palomino in the Democratic primary, while Esperanza Reyes Acosta was unopposed in the Republican primary. Benjamin Eggleston ran on the Conservative Party ticket. Joyner also ran on the Working Families Party ticket. Joyner defeated Acosta and Eggleston in the general election.[7][8][9]
