A Bay County Historical Preservation Levy Increase proposal was on the November 6, 2012 election ballot in Bay and Midland Counties, which are in Michigan, where it was defeated.
This proposal would have authorized the Bay County to continue a property tax increase of .1 mill ($.1 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for 20 years in order to fund the preservation of Bay County museum and other historical projects. The estimated first year revenue from this tax is $250,000.[1]

Language on the ballot:
| “ | This is a continuation of the original .1 of a mill previously approved by the voters. Shall the limitation of the amount of property taxes which may be assessed each year against all real and personal property in the County of Bay be increased by not more than .1 of a mill (10 cents per $1,000) for a period of 20 years, 2014-2033 inclusive, to be used to preserve Bay County's unique history, educate citizens, conduct projects, and operate and maintain a museum? This millage will raise estimated revenues of $250,000 in the first year of the levy.
