Funding
School board candidates in Arizona were not required to file a campaign finance report if they did not raise or spend more than $500. If they planned to stay under this threshold, they were permitted to file an exemption statement. This rendered them exempt from all other campaign finance reporting, provided they did not exceed the $500 threshold. Otherwise, candidates were not required to file any report until they raised or spent more than the threshold limit. At that point, they had to file a Statement of Organization within five business days from when the threshold was reached. The pre-general campaign finance report was due November 4, 2016. All campaign finance filing was handled by the Arizona Secretary of State.[3]

|I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, earned my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from NIU, and worked as an Registered Nurse in both Chicago and the Dallas area. While in Texas, I transitioned into engineering, while furthering my education at the University of Texas at Dallas in math and physics. Since moving to Arizona, I've also worked in accounting and as a legal assistant. My three children, all educated in Chandler Schools, graduated from Chandler High with IB diplomas. Elected to the Chandler Governing Board in 2008, I have focused on data-driven, student-centered leadership and planning in CUSD. My hobbies include hiking, reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling to observe solar eclipses.
- The complexity of the second largest district in the state requires an experienced, student-centered leader. With potentially three new board members and two with less than two years of experience, my extensive experience (over 15 years on the Board, 7 as president) is crucial for mentoring and maintaining focus on high-quality educational opportunities that our community expects.
- As Chandler Unified School District is ranked the top district in Arizona, continuing to provide world class educational opportunities to all students is my primary goal. Ensuring teachers have the resources needed to excel in the classroom is critical to achieving this goal. I support expanding innovative partnerships like the Semiconductor Career and Technical Education program, and others that advance STEM and CTE education and foster sustainable interest in these fields.
- Ensuring that students and families feel welcomed, safe and supported is a priority. I advocate for partnerships with organizations like the Hope Institute and Chandler Care Center to support mental health, health needs, early literacy, and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for racism, bullying, harassment and violence.
I am committed to initiatives that enhance early literacy skills among preschool-aged children. Ensuring that children enter kindergarten with robust literacy skills is critical, as proficiency in reading by third grade is a fundamental academic milestone. Programs like Make Way for Books are crucial for preparing children for kindergarten, particularly as many from lower socioeconomic backgrounds start without necessary literacy skills. These initiatives will set a solid foundation for their continued educational success.
Honesty and integrity are the most important principles for every elected official.
Experienced, Student-Focused Leadership: Having served on the Governing Board for over 15 years and as President for seven terms, I offer seasoned guidance and uphold the professionalism required to model positive behaviors within the board. Students' best interests guide my decision making process.
Data-Driven: I make informed decisions based on thorough data analysis, complemented by my ability to think creatively and critically.
Collaborative: I foster and advocate for collaborative approaches, believing that the best solutions arise from collective idea-sharing.
Financial Acumen: My extensive experience with district financials equips me to handle complex budgetary considerations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.
My first job was working in the children's room at the public library where I assisted children in finding books for school or recreational reading. This role taught me the value of reading in enriching students' lives and sparked my passion for literary enrichment. I worked for 2 years during high school and during 2 summer breaks while in college.
Supporting the diverse needs of students involves recognizing their unique, individual requirements. I support using adaptive formative assessment tools to identify specific learning gaps, allowing for targeted instructional support. This approach ensures that each student can thrive academically. Identifying barriers to learning and addressing them for each student ensures all students can achieve their full potential.
Additionally, I focus on providing a variety of professional development options for teachers and staff, allowing them to tailor their growth and meet their specific interests.
Ongoing communication with our community is important to make sure our graduates continue to meet the expectations of our community.
I advocate expanding professional development in Mental Health First Aid and supporting partnerships with organizations like the Hope Institute to increase accessibility for students experiencing mental health challenges. Supporting mental health clubs in schools, facilitating mental health conferences and supporting staff access to mental health supports are also priorities.
