Ashwani Jain is a 34-year-old son of immigrants and small business owners, a product of public schools, a published author and a cancer survivor. He has experience in public, private and non-profit sectors - including the Obama/Biden White House, the U.S.Department of Health, the U.S. Department of Housing, and the National Kidney Foundation.

  • Unlike others, 100% of our events are free and he doesn’t take money from corporations or SuperPACs. That means money will NEVER drown out your voices because he’s owned only by voters, not purchased by donors.
  • Unlike others, 100% of our campaign is run by volunteers, not consultants. That means he makes all his decisions WITH you and you will ALWAYS have a real seat at the table.
  • Unlike others, we have the most detailed policy solutions - ranging from gun violence, to abortion, to climate change to raising teacher pay - at JainForCongress.com. That means you can hold him accountable because he’s made his commitments clear.

1. $26 Minimum Wage
2. Money Out of Politics
3. Medicare for All
4. Free Public College & Cancel Study Debt

Barack Obama, Joe Biden, AOC, Stacey Abrams, Pete Buttigieg, Beto O'Rourke, Julian Castro - each have exemplified sincerity, humility, an understanding of the power of grassroots campaigning, the value of diversity and inclusion and fighting against the status quo.

Empathy - Accountability - Accessibility - Transparency

Constituent services - keeping campaign promises - pushing for and passing legislation that will benefit constituents and people around the country that find themselves in similar situations and conditions. Ensuring equality of opportunity and expanding opportunity for as many people as possible.

Making politics more inclusive and accessible; and passing significant legislation that will open the doors of opportunity for as many people as possible - including Medicare for All, Free Public College, Canceled Student Debt and a $26 minimum wage.

While in college at the University of Maryland, I served as President Obama’s Maryland Student Director, where I organized campuses across this state to pass the 2010 Maryland Dream Act in Annapolis and the Education Reconciliation Act in Congress. The first ensured that undocumented students can qualify for in-state tuition; the second put a cap on annual loan payments for college grads and increased the number of Pell Grants offered to low-income students.

I was then able to serve in the Obama White House Office of Personnel, where I diversified the federal government by helping appoint over 700 Women, African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos, Veterans, LGBTQ people, and those who have disabilities to key leadership roles.

Then, at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, I built a team to expand broadband access for those in public housing; extend the Maryland Housing Trust Fund to increase the supply of affordable housing in our state; and fund the Veteran Supportive Housing Program to provide veterans with rental assistance, case management and clinical services.

I then had the opportunity to work in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where more than 400K Marylanders got access to the Affordable Care Act during my tenure. I also had the distinct pleasure of working with then-Vice President Biden as his Director of Outreach for the Cancer Moonshot, where we helped get the NIH and the FDA - both housed here in Maryland - billions in additional funding. My efforts were later recognized by the Center for Medicare Advocacy when they presented me with their Social Justice Award.

Elected experience is not the only type of experience that matters. I think it is equally important to have the necessary lived and personal experiences, an understanding of what specific policy solutions you can bring to the table, and how to empower constituents.

Lack of political engagement from voters. Whether you’re involved or not - the decisions politicians make determine everything - the food you eat, the water you drink, the air you breathe, the roads you drive on, the schools you attend, the homes you live in, the jobs and wages you have, even the people you can love and marry. So why not get involved and elect people who’ll give you a real seat at the table?

It is challenging to see how much one can accomplish in only two years. While I believe a 4-year term would make more sense, I understanding changing the system to account for this is challenging. Either way, we still need term limits.

Just as we do with the office of President, I believe we need term limits for all elected positions.

Yes - as long as you're not compromising on your core values, acting in a way that would harm your constituents or discriminate against those in marginalized communities.

I am a 32-year-old cancer survivor, the son of immigrants and small business owners, and a product of Maryland public schools. I have worked in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, and served in the Obama White House and two federal agencies. While I’d be the nation’s youngest Governor, I have the experience and perspective needed. Full details at JainForGovernor.com

  • I’m fully accessible (100% of our events are free; I don’t take donations from developers, businesses, PACs or polluters; and I’m the only Governor candidate to personally meet voters in a different county each day of the week).
  • I’m fully accountable (we are the first statewide campaign in the U.S. to be 100% run by residents - from every age, background and all 24 counties).
  • I’m fully transparent (we’ve shared the most detailed, comprehensive and fully paid-for policy agenda - each written by residents impacted by those policies - since last January 2021).

One of our signature programs that tackles issues comprehensively and will provide residents more disposable income and a decreased cost of living is called the “Maryland Now Plan”, which will eliminate the state income tax for 95% of Maryland workers (anyone making less than $400,000); make public transit free; create the nation’s first guaranteed jobs program; legalize marijuana while expunging records; and get money out of politics.

Full details can be found here: https://jainforgov.medium.com/the-maryland-now-plan-eliminating-the-state-income-tax-and-a-guaranteed-jobs-program-8ed25788ec47

I’m running for Governor to make politics inclusive and accessible.

Now, this idea of inclusion started when I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 13. During that time, I didn’t think I would get to leave the 4 walls of that hospital room. And I had no control over my life.

I was told when to wake up, when to sleep, what to eat, and what medicines to take…I lost all my hair and my confidence. And I felt depressed, suicidal and helpless.

It hurt to have other people make decisions for me instead of with me. Ironically - and unfortunately - so many Marylanders feel that way about politics right now.
