Biography
Angie Taylor was born in San Francisco, California. She earned three degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno: a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1985, a graduate degree in public administration in 1991, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership in 2004. Her career experience includes working as a consultant, as president and chief executive officer at Guardian Quest, and for the University of Nevada, Reno. Taylor has been affiliated with Boys and Girls Clubs, the NAACP, the Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society, Nevada Women's Fund, and the University of Nevada Intercollegiate Athletics.[1][2][3]

Nonpartisan primary election
The primary election was canceled. Incumbent Angie Taylor and Matthew Montognese advanced from the primary for Washoe County School District Board of Trustees District E.
2016
Five of the seven seats on the Washoe County School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Districts A, D, E, and G held primary elections. District C held a special election in conjunction with the general election for a seat with a two-year term. In District A, incumbent Scott Taylor won the seat in the primary election by obtaining more than 50 percent of the vote and defeating Dale Richardson and Colleen Doenges. District E did not appear on the general election ballot either, as incumbent Angie Taylor defeated Paula Ward and Carlos Ledon by obtaining more than 50 percent of all votes cast.
In District D, Malena Raymond defeated Kenneth Grein in the general election after defeating Lauren Hacker, Kathleen Little-Bolotin, Brock Marquez, and Emily Reese in the primary election. Katy Simon Holland won the District E seat after defeating Bill Horn in the general election and David DeSilva, Greg Hudson, Helm Lehmann, Mike Mieras, Michael Millerick, and Jack Milon in the primary election.
There was no primary election for the open seat in District C. Debra Feemster defeated Len Stevens, Greg Hudson, Carol Alice Evans, and Allen Elser in the general election.[4]

My name is Angie Taylor and I proudly represent Nevada State Assembly District 27. I’m a lifelong educator and a small business owner who has served my community for as long as I can remember. Whether as the historian at Traner Middle School or the Assembly member from District 27, it’s an honor to work to help make things better. I believe that public service chooses you, you don’t choose it and it chose me at an early age.
My elected service began in 2014 when I was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees. The bulk of my education experience was in higher education while working at the University of Nevada for 20 years. After leaving the University, I continued my work in education as a trainer and consultant in the areas of leadership, DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) team building and organizational culture. I am now the CEO of that organization, Guardian Quest, and continue that work today.
After two elections (2016 and 2020) to continue on my service on the school board, I was elected to the Nevada State Assembly (2022). Today (2024), I am running to fill the vacant Senate seat in District 15 and hope to earn your vote.
- I believe my EXPERTISE in education separates me from the field. The Nevada State Legislature spends more time and money on education that any other area - and rightly so. My vast experience in higher education, on the school board and as a Ph.D. in education makes me uniquely qualified to lead in this area. We've got to improve education in our state and I have the expertise to help ensure that happens. That work already began as I helped to pass a 20% raise for teachers and the largest investment in education in history. I'd like to continue that work. EXPERTISE matters.
- My EXPERIENCE in the Nevada State Legislature positions me to have an immediate impact. It's hard to pass policy (as it should be) and I've demonstrated the ability to do just that. As a freshman legislator, I was had five of my six bills enacted, one way or another, which is unusual for a first timer. I know how to work with my colleagues to gain support. I know how to include legislators from both parties to find common ground. I know how to involve stakeholders on both sides of an issue in order to mitigate opposition and build support. As an example, I provided the leadership required to get a critical, closely watched bill through both houses and the governor's office, to enact important educational policy. EXPERIENCE matters.
- I an extremely honored to be the only candidate in the race who has earned the ENDORSEMENT of the Nevada Senate Democratic Caucus. After meeting with all interested potential candidates, the Senate Majority Leader and the Caucus members decided that my candidacy is the one they will support. The best predictor of future performance is past performance. I am blessed to have had strong performance in the past. Their endorsement sends a strong message that they not only believe in my past legislative experience, but they also believe that I can add value to an already strong team. I don't just want to make the Caucus team. I want to make the Caucus team better. They believe I can. The ENDORSEMENT matters.
I am passionate about Education because it changed my life. It continues to be the great equalizer. I am passionate about healthcare. As a breast cancer survivor, I know how critical it is. That includes everything from lowering the cost of prescription drugs, to access and affordability. In also includes protecting a women's right to choose. As a small business owner, I am passionate about small business, which provide over 70% of the economic engine in our state. That means removing barriers, supporting and helping to build opportunities that develop small businesses and small business owners.
I believe that we need leaders with integrity and strong character, who are committed service before self.
Policy makers should be committed to developing good policies that make things better for Nevadans. That requires listening to citizens, involving stakeholders and working with colleagues from all parties to find common ground where we can, compromise where we must, and most importantly, get things done.
My very first job was a babysitter for a neighbor. I did that off and on for several years. My favorite job before I started a career, was at a 7-Eleven. It was in the neighborhood I grew up in so I knew a lot of the customers. It was a neighborhood that as in the "hood" so there were times when it was colorful, loud, and a little scary, but it was always fun. The store was a sort of hangout so most of the time, people were respectful. I held that job for about a year and a half, while I was in college. It was just a part of the culture of our neighborhood. While I enjoyed the people, I had a constant reminder of why I was going to school in order to have better opportunities.
A relationship of mutual respect and honestly is essential, especially when there is a divided government.
Nevada faces many important challenges over the next decade. Some of the most important are education (funding and improving it), environmental issues (renewables, climate concerns), healthcare (access to and affordability of, mental health, critical provider shortages)
I believe it's beneficial as it can reduce the learning curve.
Not only is it beneficial but it's essential. No one can successfully operate on an island in Carson. Relationships with colleagues in both parties make it possible to have the honest communication necessary to make and pass good policy.
I have long admired Senator Bernice Mathews. She led with integrity and a commitment to the entire State. Consequently, she served in a manner that elicited the respect from both sides of the aisle. I am blessed to have her as a mentor and realize that I even today, I am standing on her shoulders.

Last session, I served as the Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Education and as a member on the Assembly Committees on Health and Human Services and Governmental Affairs. I enjoyed those committees as I have some experience, education and/or expertise in them. However, I want to serve where I can best add value. The better question in this case is, "Where can I help?"
Without transparency, it's difficult to gain trust. As public officials, we need citizens to have trust in the governmental system. When policies are violated, there should be accountability.

I am a lifelong educator who has served our community for over 3 decades. It has been an honor to be so involved with in the community I love and to help make things better for people I serve.
- Improving education is a necessity for the economic future of our State. I would attack that by focusing on the two things that can make the greatest difference: reducing class sizes and improving the pay for educators. As a current member of the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees, I’m proud of the improvements we’ve made while balancing the billion dollar for the first time in a decade. Improvements have been made in spite of being among the lowest funded educational systems in the country. And yet, I know there is still much more to do. Help me take this fight to the State Legislature so we can continue to improve our schools for the students, staff and families in our State.
- Improving our health care and protecting a women’s right to choose are both important for State. I support a health care public option that cuts premiums and makes prescription drugs more affordable, saving Nevadan seniors and families hundreds of millions of dollars.
- As a small business owner, I believe it’s critical to support local small businesses and working families. I understand that small businesses are the backbone of our economic growth. I will work to lower the cost of gas, groceries, and utilities and lessen the financial burden on working families and small businesses in our State.

As an African American female, I have faced a lot of challenges and have been blessed to overcome most of them.
The governor and the state legislature are co-equal branches of government. Ideally, the two branches work well together to develop state polices and the budget. The governor sets the initial budget and the legislature begins there but may/should act independently,
As a growing state, we will consistently need to find innovative ways to fund the needs of a growing citizenry.
In my opinion, one of the benefits is that policy can get reviewed and approved a lot faster. Also in my humble opinion, one of the drawbacks is that there is not the same checks and balance present as with a bicameral state legislature.
Yes. Without relationships, it's difficult to build trust. Without trust, it's much more difficult to get things done.
I favor a non-partisan approach.
There are areas of expertise that I bring, but I would like to work where I can be of the most assistance.
