|I am a civic minded person who finally took the chance to run for office. I currently own a cleaning business in my small town on the coastal of eastern North Carolina. My political opinion can be boiled down to one simple word: fairness. So much that hurts us as a society can be addressed if we apply basic fairness to the given situation. Of course, I do no think it is a simple cure all; however, I believe it to be a good starting point. As a working class individual, I know what making sacrifice feels like along with what it brings you in life. We deserve representation that can relate to all of the common struggles experienced by working class people. From stretching ones budget to working with what you have at hand, these values are engrained in the working class and should show up in our representation.
- Fairness is a good start. I believe in finding common ground among people. Truly I have yet to meet a person who is openly against fairness as a value. I pledge to bring back fairness to the political process in Raleigh.
- I believe in the power of the people. As your representation, I am working for you and not a political party.
- Kindness is key. I am not in this campaign to bring the other side down or to start more arguments. We as a nation have enough of those. I want to have conversations with people where they are. In order to do that, kindness comes first in respecting their opinions.
I would say the three main public policy areas i am passionate about are democracy, economics, and education.
September 11th, 2001 was the first historical event that I remember happening. I was eight years old at the time. I remember walking to the schools library and watching teachers stand looking at the tv in the snack room with their mouths open. The only imagine I can recall of the event was seeing the first plane strike the Twin Tower. After that, I was hurried away from there and back into the classroom. The events of that day come to better understanding for me when I was older. However I will never forget the imagine in my head of seeing the first plane hit the tower as it did.
I was lucky enough to be certified as a pharmacy technician in high school so after graduating high school, I joined a local pharmacy. I was then hired at a second local to help with delivering medicine. I had also just started community college at the time so I was given deliveries between classes and during lunch breaks. This job taught me so much about working with others in stressful environments until towards a common goal. The deliveries were the best part of the job as I was always tipped well by customers. After being accepted to East Carolina University, I stopped working as a technician and focused on school.
Absolutely it is critical to do. I often wonder why some legislators are even in the chamber because it seems all they wish to do is make a name for themselves. That is not what this work is about. Building relationships with fellow legislators allows better outcomes for the voters. This is because when the legislators can set aside partisan views and work towards common goals , the people of North Carolina win. Regardless of political views, the fellow legislators are co-workers, so like any working environment is it critical to build strong decent relationships throughout.

The ballot initiative process would be an excellent addition to North Carolina's democracy. The ballot initiative process is the most direct form of democracy that America has. The people of North Carolina deserve to be hear on issue that impact them. Currently North Carolina has the constitutional amendments or bonds that are directly voted on by the people. I would envision a process that allows citizens of the state to be able to setup ballot initiatives and referendums via signatures or other requirements. Let the people vote on the issues that matter to them.
