Alabama Ratite Industry Promotion, Amendment 5 (1998)

The Alabama Ratite Industry Promotion Amendment, also know as Amendment 5, was on the November 3, 1998, election ballot in Alabama as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was defeated. This measure proposed that members of the ratite industry could organize and levy assessments upon themselves to support activities to promote their industry. Ratites are a type of flightless bird. Emus and ostriches are some examples of ratites.[1]
