The Sanyo Shinkansen history. How were the route and station locations decided.
The Sanyo Shinkansen is the second Shinkansen to be extended from the Tokaido Shinkansen.
Since the construction of the Tokaido Shinkansen greatly exceeded the budget of the Japan National Railways, the construction was divided into two sections, Shin-Osaka to Okayama and Okayama to Hakata. It opened to Okayama in 1972 and to Hakata in 1975.
The Sanyo Shinkansen and the Tokaido Shinkansen, which opened in 1964, have many direct trains running, and it is operated as one line. However, there are many differences between these two Shinkansen lines.
Now, I will talk about the differences between the Tokaido Shinkansen and the Sanyo Shinkansen. And I will also explain about the routes and stations of the Sanyo Shinkansen.

- The idea of this video is to show the evolution of Shinkansen trains through time, especially from the aspects of their appearance and their performance.
Today there are many series of Shinkansen trains. Naturally, each of them is sort of an upgrade to the previous series. Having in mind that this evolutionary process has been complicated by the privatization of the Japanese railways we will introduce the trains according to lines instead of the order by which they appeared.
We covered the following lines and series:
1. Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen: 0-series, 100-series, 300-series, 500-series, 700-series, Class 923 "Doctor Yellow", N700, N700A and N700S
2. Tohoku, Joetsu, Hokuriku and Mini Shinkansen: 200-series, 400-series, E1-series, E2-series, E3 series, E4 series, E5 series, E6 series and E7 series
3. Kyushu Shinkansen: 800-series
4. BONUS: JR East ALFA-X and Genbi Shinkansen
If you want to know all about the Shinkansen train series, check out our video!
Enjoy!
