Gearing Up for GBBC
The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is one of a handful of projects around which we can come together as an entire network, each participating in ways that make sense for our communities and our capacity! It’s a near-perfect engagement tool for this moment, but even in more “normal” times, GBBC is an engagement ribbon with the potential to stitch together all Audubon chapters in a collaborative community science effort for four days every February.
  • It offers a way to connect with your members through one of their favorite activities.
  • It provides a welcoming entry point for novice birders and first-time participants to get to know you.
  • It allows for health-conscious engagement and social connection in a COVID world.
  • It’s flexible! People can participate safely from just about anywhere.
  • And, it’s an opportunity to come together as a network around an event that we can all find a way in which to participate.

GBBC Live!
GBBC Live!
This year, we’re adding a new, online element to the GBBC. Since most folks won’t be able to get together in person, we’re presenting a GBBC Live! segment on February 13th and 14th with guest hosts every half hour from across the network. Hosts will chat with participants, help identify birds, answer eBird questions, offer help with checklists, and be a welcoming face for GBBC birders.

Want to get your chapter in on the fun? There are a few hosting spaces still available and we’d love to spotlight your chapter. We’re recruiting hosts through January 31st so let us know if you would like to get involved. For more information, email Kelly.
