By George Restaurant at The Candler Hotel
Located on the first floor of this circa 1906 building, now home to the luxurious Candler Hotel, By George serves “American contemporary” dishes paired with cocktails and wine. This is old-school restaurant elegance where imported gray marble columns stand like monoliths in the dining room and brass and crystal chandeliers hang above tables in a space filled with natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The original bank vaults from the historic Candler building still reside beneath the restaurant.

Polaris
People arrive at Polaris sitting atop the Hyatt Regency like a blue-domed flying saucer via a glass elevator that ascends 22 stories, arriving in a dining room that once played host to Sammy Davis Jr., Harry Belafonte, and Gladys Knight. First opened in 1967, its status as an iconic restaurant comes down to Atlanta architect John C. Portman Jr., who designed Polaris to make a full rotation every 45 minutes. Polaris has undergone more than a few reinventions over the years, including in its interior design, which now sees an updated space filled with mid-century modern furniture, loads of natural light, and an ever-changing view during dinner. Today, it’s still one of the hottest reservations in town — and one of the hardest to get. Food here leans into classics like the steak Oscar served over creamy whipped potatoes with a bone marrow bearnaise sauce, wagyu New York strip, and the blue dome chocolate mousse dessert containing a caramel honey center. It’s sprayed with a blue-tinted cocoa butter to resemble the restaurant’s distinctive domed roof.

Casual elegance is how one could describe the design, food, and drinks at Midtown Italian restaurant Lyla Lila. Muted green trim and whitewashed plastered walls give way to pops of color in jewel-toned dining chairs, colorful custom light fixtures, and leather half-moon booths throughout the dining room and bar. Airy curtains hang along the floor-to-ceiling windows in the restaurant, which still allow plenty of natural light to filter through the space. Order everything from cold-smoked scallops to duck lasagna to whole wood-grilled fish at Lyla Lila, all created by chef Craig Richards and his team.
