Tree Pruning

While trees are inanimate objects, it’s important to remember that they are living biological systems, and any action taken will affect their long term health – and the health of your wallet.

While pruning can be one of the best things for establishing good tree structure and safety, improper tree pruning practices-such as flush cutting and climbing with spurs-can have an adverse effect on your tree’s health. Additionally, this can cause problems in the future, making it more costly to maintain your trees.

We can prune your trees to improve their shape, health, and appearance, as well as to prevent potential problems such as storm damage, disease, or insect infestation. We follow the ANSI A-300 industry standards and ISA best management practices for tree pruning.

Plant Care Services

We can help you maintain the health and beauty of your trees, shrubs, and turf by providing fertilization, pruning, and insect and disease control services. We use organic and eco-friendly products whenever possible.

Insect and Spotted Lantern Fly Control

Protect your trees and plants from harmful insects such as emerald ash borer, gypsy moth, Japanese beetle, scale, aphids, and more. We use integrated pest management (IPM) methods that are safe for your family, pets, and plants.

We can also help you control the spread of the spotted lantern fly (SLF), an invasive insect that feeds on over 70 plant species and causes significant damage to crops, trees, and ornamentals. We can treat your trees with systemic insecticides that kill the SLF without harming beneficial insects or pollinators.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you can find answers to some of the most common questions we get from our customers. If you have a question that is not answered here, please feel free to contact us anytime. We are always happy to hear from you!

Yes, we offer emergency tree service for any urgent or hazardous situations involving your trees. Whether it is a storm damage, a fallen tree, a broken branch, or any other emergency, we are ready to respond quickly and safely to resolve the issue. You can call us anytime at (732) 928-5747 during normal business hours or leave a message and our arborist will get back to you as soon as possible after hours.

There are many signs that indicate your tree may need pruning, such as dead or broken branches, crossing or rubbing branches, dense or crowded canopy, weak or narrow crotches, low-hanging or obstructing branches, diseased or infected branches, storm damage, poor shape or appearance, or excessive growth.
The best time of year to prune or remove trees depends on the type, condition, and location of the trees. Generally, the dormant season (late fall or winter) is preferred for most trees, as it minimizes the risk of disease and pest infestation, and allows the trees to heal faster. However, some trees may benefit from pruning or removal at other times of the year, such as flowering trees, fruit trees, or trees with specific problems. We recommend consulting with our certified arborists to determine the best time of year for your trees.

The cost of tree removal varies depending on several factors, such as the size, location, condition, and accessibility of the tree, as well as the type and amount of equipment and labor required, the presence of any hazards or obstacles, and the disposal method of the tree debris.

The average cost of tree removal in NJ ranges from $500 to $1500, but it can be higher or lower depending on the specific circumstances of each job. To get an accurate estimate, contact us today for a free consultation and quote.

  • Check for credentials such as licenses and certifications showing a demonstrated level of experience or skill.
  • Memberships in industry associations such as ISA, TCIA, ASCA and NJSCTE demonstrate a willingness to stay current with all of the latest technology and skills.
  • Check for proof of insurance especially liability and workers compensation. This should be provided to you directly from the insurance company to ensure that policies are current and you are covered in case of any mishaps or injuries on the job.
  • When getting estimates, don’t always go with the low bid. The cheapest price may not be the best value. Improper tree care can take years and a larger investment to correct and in some cases may not be correctable.
  • Always get it in writing. A professional arborist is generally too busy to solicit work door to door looking to perform the work on the spot. Request a contract. Read it carefully and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
We dispose of the debris after tree pruning or removal in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner. We recycle as much of the wood and branches as possible, either by chipping them into mulch or firewood, or by donating them to local organizations or individuals who can use them. We also haul away any remaining debris and dispose of it at a licensed facility. We leave your property clean and tidy after every job.

Yes, we offer free estimates for all our tree care and removal services. We will visit your property and assess your trees and your needs. We will provide you with a written estimate that includes the scope of work, the cost, and the time frame. We will also answer any questions you may have and explain our process and procedures. You can request a free estimate by filling out our online form or by calling us at (732) 298-5747.

The need for a permit for tree pruning or removal varies depending on your location, your property type, and your tree type. Some municipalities may require a permit for certain types of tree work, especially if the trees are located on public land, in a historic district, or in a conservation area. Some homeowners associations may also have rules or regulations regarding tree work on private property. We recommend checking with your local authorities and your HOA before proceeding with any tree work. We can also assist you with obtaining any necessary permits if needed.

The Reviews Are In

Here are some of the testimonials received from our happy customers. We appreciate the feedback, so keep it coming!

Curtis came by to consult about a stump that needed to be removed. He was able to remove it without a grinder in about 30 minutes. Strong as heck and a very friendly guy. I will definitely be calling him for future tree work.

WELL DONE! Aspen just trimmed the dead wood out of 2 large oak trees in our yard. Great job. Fantastic clean up. And they didn’t let a little thing like the polar vortex slow them down – worked right through it. They were also very patient with all of the questions I asked – both the on-site crew and the office team. We had Aspen remove about 21 trees in our yard years ago and so happy we called them back. Would highly recommend them to anyone.

I had the pleasure of having Chris and James come remove some trees on my property. They were hired through JCP&L. We ran into some delays and issues but Chris and James had great spirits and kept things light. They went above and beyond to get the job done and even thought ahead to make our lives easier. These guys were good. I have other work to be done and will definitely be using Aspen. Send Chris and James!

Great company! Highly recommend them.

The work is excellent. I chose them specifically because they have real arborists and advocate against and “tree topping”. Unfortunately, there was heavy rain the first time they were scheduled to do the work. Instead of trying to proceed under bad conditions, they recommended rescheduling, which I thought was a good idea. The day they actually did the work, I was surprised how many people arrived to do what I thought was a small amount of work…The cleanup in the area of the tree removal was so complete that it was difficult to tell that there had been a tree there. The proof of the pruning expertise is that it is not apparent unless one knows that the work was performed. All of the damaged and crossed branches were removed…
