Manhattan’s Chinatown, located in lower Manhattan, is one of the earliest Chinese American communities. It is amongst nine other Chinatown neighborhoods in New York City, distinctly bounded from the west by the streets of Broadway, to the east by Essex St., on the south by Worth St. and at the north lies Grant St. Ah Ken, the first immigrant settler was a Cantonese businessman who created a successful cigar store on Park Row and begun the first of many generational small businesses. Small businesses are the heart and soul of Manhattan’s Chinatown as 98% of its economy is comprised by such enterprises.
Welcome to Chinatown recognizes the importance of Small Businesses in this community. Through initiatives such as the Longevity Fund, Sik Faan, Lunar Accelerator and Made in Chinatown, Welcome to Chinatown partners with small business owners to ensure that Manhattan’s Chinatown is sustained for future generations.
