You get an amount of damage if you jump off a high distance, Human Humans take the full amount of fall damage while some Creatures take more, reduced or no fall damage. You can protect yourself from fall damage if you wear Tek Boots Tek Boots, have a Archaeopteryx on your shoulder, use a Parachute or Glider Suit or by landing in water.

A common tactic to avoid fall damage is to immediately dismount a creature before hitting the ground, but for creatures that you can stand on such as Paracer Paracer the timing is not necessary

The following creatures take reduced fall damage :

as well as many others. The following creatures don't take fall damage:

Sometimes the Ravager Ravager and the Karkinos Karkinos take fall damage but it's massively reduced, the Rock Drake Rock Drake occasionally has a bug that causes it to take a massive amount of fall damage, even from a low distance so be careful with your Rock Drake Drake. The following creatures take full amount of fall damage, try not to fall with them whilst riding them:

as well as many other creatures.

Notes[]

  • On the console version of Ark (Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X and unsure of Playstation 4/PC) a combination of general game lag and server lag can make it possible to completely negate fall damage by opening your inventory before you hit the ground. You can also use this unintended bug to sort of fly depending on your forward moving velocity while falling and spamming the inventory button.
  • Humans take severly increased damage when compared to any other creature.
  • On official servers spamming Inventory button while falling will slow down the fall and remove fall damage. Spamming it while riding Equus or Direwolf will make them glide.
