everyone to make good decisions behind the wheel. and those of you driving to your destination well, you are enjoying a bit of a break on travel expenses compared to last year. gas prices are down a bit across the country. >> gas in my car, so i like to take it for a long drive because reliable. and on top of that, i think it's more safer and faster than going on the airlines and less expensive triple a predicts that about 72 million people will travel by car over the long holiday weekend, and on this busy day of thanksgiving, travel well, workers at oakland airport rallied outside our jana katsuyama tonight with the main change they want to see inside oakland international airport. >> holiday travelers lined up an estimated 340,000 passengers are expected this thanksgiving week. >> the airport hasn't been bad and our luggage came right out, so no complaints. >> but outside the terminals, a talking turkey had this message for the airlines. southwest.
7:33 pm
don't be a turkey. >> we deserve dignity. it's thanksgiving, but we have workers inside this building who make the legal minimum. >> the seiu, which represents about 70 union workers at oakland airport, says the port of oakland, the airlines and their contractors should show their thanks with higher wages and health care. >> right now, the airlines contract for services, and there's hundreds and hundreds of workers working as cabin cleaners, as baggage attendants, wheelchair attendants. and they can't make it in in oakland. >> i can pay for the rent, the food and the baby. >> juana ramirez says she's been cleaning airplane cabins for five years. and at $21 an hour, she says she can't afford health care. marta chavez has been the cabin cleaner for 25 years. >> estamos ganando muy poco. >> she says she can't support her family of five on her $23 an hour wage. >> i think they're all entitled, entitled to a wage that they can

live in this community. >> the port of oakland is planning an expansion of the airport, which the union says could bring up to 1000 new construction and airport jobs. the union says they want the port of oakland board to do what san francisco has done and set mandatory minimum wages for oakland workers. >> a cabin cleaner in san francisco. on average, at minimum, makes at least $10, plus more than a cabin cleaner here in oakland. even if they work for the same company. >> the port of oakland sent us this statement that says, in part, while the airport hears their concerns, we also recognize that this issue is between airlines and their contracted employees. we are working with our law enforcement partners to ensure that airport operations remain uninterrupted for thanksgiving holiday travelers. we also reached out to southwest airlines and the contractor g2, but we have not heard back from them. reporting from the oakland airport jana katsuyama, ktvu, fox two news, and from oakland airport to san francisco international, we go

tonight and while it is quite busy at bay area airports, airlines are doing a decent job staying on schedule as we take a live look now at sfo where there have been fewer than 200 flight delays today. >> oakland and san jose had about a few dozen. damp conditions cleared this morning, helping to keep flights on time. it's exactly what you want to see in on time flight when you're heading out for the holiday. let's bring in our meteorologist, mark tamayo, for what we can expect come thanksgiving day. >> yeah, the weather helping us out, the umbrellas going to break just a few days ago, all the rainfall and. yeah, so that's all shifted out of the area. and we're just talking about some cold. >> i'm glad to see that shift. yeah, exactly. >> yeah. it's a welcome change for us. and definitely want to bundle up though. first thing tomorrow morning we have frost advisories not only for tomorrow morning but into friday morning as well for the north bay valleys and the inland valleys. that means the coolest locations start out the day in the upper 20s to the low to mid 30s. now we have lots of sunshine today.
7:36 pm
but what's interesting this time of year after rainfall, especially in the central valley, you get a stable patter. you get the formation of that tule fog that tends to really impact visibilities. so dense fog advisory for all of these areas is also includes solano county and not out of the question. we could have some patches of some dense fog and some of the inland valleys first thing tomorrow morning. so we have this advisory in place tomorrow morning, especially up in the north bay and the inland east bay, the patches of some dense fog. we'll see if that expands across portions of the bay area first thing tomorrow morning. so we talked about that cold start, but clearing skies into the afternoon hours and temperatures on track after that chilly start in the upper 50s to the low to mid 60s. so a great day to get outside for a hike or just go to the park or something like that. no rain threat at all. here's the satellite. lots of clear skies over a good portion of california becoming closer to the bay area. still in the air. and here is our live camera looking above san francisco. we'll show you some of the current numbers. definitely cooling off santa rosa right now. 47 degrees on track to reach the 30s tomorrow morning. concord is 48. in san jose 54. so definitely want to bundle up first thing tomorrow
7:37 pm
morning. that cold start some patchy dense fog out there and then into the afternoon hours. it's still dry. this area of high pressure wants to build in, so it looks like a dry weather pattern, not only for tomorrow for thanksgiving, but also into friday and into the weekend with some hazy sunshine into the afternoon hours. here's the forecast model now. does bring in a few high clouds closer to monterey bay tomorrow afternoon. then probably some more high cloud cover. this is friday and then into saturday as well. maybe some more clouds out there, but definitely no rain threat with that. with that overcast moving in still, maybe a sun cloud mix as we start off the weekend. highs for tomorrow. after that cold start, a nice recovery into the afternoon hours, upper 50s to the lower 60s. and here's a look ahead. your five day forecast a frost advisory tomorrow morning and then once again into friday morning. so definitely want to bundle up saturday partly sunny skies. and it's a nice mild pattern that will take us into sunday and still dry into monday of next week. so looking pretty good with this forecast for your thanksgiving. >> all right. thanks so much
7:38 pm
mark. you and your family enjoy a beautiful thanksgiving. all right. >> you too. yes. >> thank you. appreciate that. all right. the east bay community of piedmont is grieving tonight. three young people, all killed in a tragic crash. it happened early this morning. officials say a tesla cybertruck with four people inside crashed and caught fire there on hampton road near king avenue. this was shortly after three this morning. two young men and a woman died. they all graduated from piedmont high just last year. one person survived. well, throughout the day, friends of the victims. we watched as they brought flowers to that crash site. a local teacher said the victims had been her students. >> when you know them, just makes it worse. but i just can't imagine for their parents and their siblings. >> police say that they believe that speed was a factor in this crash. the cause of the collision, though, is under investigation by the chp. have a lot of people on your holiday

looking to take advantage of holiday shoppers. [music] >> the day after thanksgiving marks the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. but for many, it's already underway. san francisco's union square was bustling with activities, shoppers and window shoppers looking to get a jump before the holiday. marissa rodriguez from the union square alliance says the city's premier shopping district is already welcoming people looking for deals. >> yeah, black friday just posted all over. people are trying to see even come down and see maybe what they might want. presales, that sort of thing. so yeah, the energy and the excitement is palpable. >> shoppers say they're returning to union square now after hearing about safety measures in the area. saying nothing can beat the experience of shopping in person. >> come down here to get some hot cocoa to experience the christmas tree. see all the lights in the city? go to the different hotels. do some holiday shopping. sometimes it's nice to be out in person versus behind the computer screen.
7:44 pm
>> that sense of security is by design. san francisco's police chief bill scott says work has been underway for months to make union square a welcoming and safe, starting with more officers in the area. >> union square is always busy during this week of the holiday season. we have upped our deployment with our officers that are specifically deployed to the union square detail. >> chief scott said that move has already proven successful, with officers interrupting overnight burglary attempts and arresting suspects on scene. he also pointed to new technology the city has adopted, including drones and cameras, to monitor critical areas and track down criminals if they strike. but the chief said shoppers also need to be mindful about their own security. even with thousands fewer car break ins so far this year than last. >> to the public, just be aware of what's going on around you. make sure that you're watching out for each other and your neighbors. don't leave visible things in your car because that's a target for theft and
7:45 pm
car break ins as well. >> the union square alliance says with all the safety precautions in place, now is the time for shoppers to come out and shop in person. >> yeah, i think people realize, you know what? it's the holidays. i want to get out. i want to be doing something fun and exciting with my family. i want to go to union square and ice skate and see macy's. great tree. >> and a quick reminder, we are just four weeks away from christmas and hanukkah. the countdown is on in san francisco, christien kafton, ktvu, fox two news, hollister resident erica morton is petitioning to try to make highway 25 safer. >> her neighbor, priscilla jones, a santa clara county 911 dispatcher and another driver died in a head on crash back in october. now, morton is calling for k-rails to go up on the santa clara county side of that highway. currently, only the san benito county side has the barriers that divide oncoming traffic. this petition now has more than 6000 signatures.
7:46 pm
>> i felt bad i was like, if there were k-rails here, she would be alive. she was going to work. >> in a statement to ktvu, caltrans says that it plans to conduct a traffic investigation on the route in both counties and that the agency expects findings and recommendations to be released sometime in january. new at 730 tonight, the state's office of traffic safety awarded $200,000 to the san mateo police department. now, this grant will go towards road safety projects. that means funding more dui checkpoints, hosting community presentations about the dangers of distracted driving, and also training officers to conduct sobriety tests. this grant program will run through next september. all right. how about a little friendly competition at the salvation army today? the holiday challenge pitting san francisco police versus san francisco fire with only one agency walking away, the big winner and these young football players will be the winners of the bay area's generosity. just

is a really big day for the saint anthony foundation in san francisco as it prepares to serve about 2000 meals to guests tomorrow, along with the turkey and mashed potatoes, there's a new offering this year, hollow bread. earlier today at 4:00, i spoke with the ceo, doctor larry kwan, about the many services that saint anthony's provides all year long, including clothing, laundry and medical care. >> see, i don't know, 13,000 visits for primary care with 2000 patients. what we're going to try to do is continue that integrated tighter and then hopefully create a medical home for our neighborhood. >> doctor kwan also told us that they are also still pushing for

the golden gate greenway project, so that would permanently close traffic along a block of golden gate avenue in the tenderloin and convert it to open space. well, a friendly annual thanksgiving competition took place today at the nearby salvation army central kitchen there in san francisco, mayor london breed and the police and fire chiefs competed to see just who could carve the most turkey. they were also judged on technique and presentation. so this tradition has been going on now for more than 50 years. well, the mayor and chiefs, along with police officers and fire crews, carved more than 600 pounds of turkey to feed about 500 seniors and homeless people living there in the tenderloin. >> it's a fun, friendly competition, but it's also what i love about it is this is a this is bringing the police department, the fire department all about focusing on our community. so we're going to take these 500 meals, deliver them to the community afterwards. >> come on. >> okay. so the competition

actually ended in a tie this year. but as you can see there, it was broken by the two chiefs breaking a wishbone. an interim fire chief, sandi tong, came away with the bigger piece following that competition, volunteers began then distributing those turkey holiday meals to those in need. great job by both of those chiefs there. all right. well, they have big dreams of winning the championship in florida, but this oakland youth football team just needs a little more help getting there. and it's looking much better on bay area roads right now to compare to just about an hour ago, giving you a live look now at conditions on interstate 880. in oakland, traffic relatively light for anyone thinking about getting their holiday road trip started. now's not a bad time

expected the return of quarterback brock purdy. our bailey o'carroll was at practice today in santa clara, where purdy was back on the field, but other stars did not practice. >> injuries continue to be an issue with this team. of course, last week in their loss to the green bay packers, they were without quarterback brock purdy, among other stars this week. while it is still very much up in the air about who will be a go come sunday, today at practice, brock purdy did not throw any passes. it's exactly what we saw last week on wednesday and he didn't play on sunday. nick bosa and trent williams did not practice today. amador leonard, also sitting out. and remember that ankle sprain fred warner suffered back in week four against the patriots. well, it turns out that was a lot more serious than originally thought. he's actually been playing on a fractured ankle since then. >> it was a fracture when i when i sprained it. so i mean anytime you fracture a bone it's going to if you just continue to play on it, the bone is usually not going to be able to heal itself,

you know. so just got to continue to just fight through. it's something i deal with every game. i get on that table before the game and get it shot up every single game just to just to be able to roll the injury. >> of course, no longer keeping warner off the field. he says it is a lingering issue, though, one that he deals with every week. a bright spot coming out of practice today, though, linebacker dre greenlaw practice window was open. he has been out the entirety of this season dealing with a torn achilles that he suffered in the team's super bowl loss at the end of last season to the kansas city chiefs. we saw him working out with warner on the sidelines and on the field as achilles, looking to be back to original strength. now, what is ahead for this sunday and who will take the field for the niners? again, that is still up in the air, but they do know that they have a tough opponent ahead of them in josh allen and this buffalo team in snowy weather could also be waiting for them in buffalo. something they say though they are prepared for in santa clara. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> well, an oakland youth football team has seen an incredible community response for help after qualifying for
