police activity. a large presence seen earlier tonight, just about an hour ago in the parking lot of that station. now, at this point, it is unclear what this investigation is tied to or if anyone is hurt. we have reached out to bart police as well as the union city police department for any information. we're also working to gather more from the scene there once we get any new information into the newsroom, of course we will bring it to you. tonight, santa rosa police say a postal worker was struck and killed by a driver who may have had a medical emergency. a gmc suv collided with the mail truck at corrigan street and north point parkway about 5:00 this evening. officers say the postal worker was found down on the street and pronounced dead at the scene. the driver of the suv was taken to the hospital where he is being interviewed. cold temperatures tonight and rain set to hit the bay area tomorrow night. residents bracing for the season's first real big storm and parts of the north bay could be hit the hardest. let's check in with our chief meteorologist, bill

martin, who is tracking the incoming storm. bill? yeah, that's right, mike. >> north bay will be most likely hit the hardest from this weather system. and in terms of maybe double or triple the rainfall that other areas south are going to see. in other words, marin county could end up with a half foot of rain. san jose may get a 10th of an inch of rain. that just those numbers. that's the kind of disparity we're talking about here with this atmospheric river, which is set up like this and has its focus north of the golden gate bridge, north of i-80. so chico and paradise and oroville, you guys will get a bunch of rain, but you go south to sacramento, at least based on the latest models. you get south into sacramento. modesto, they're going to go, what are you talking about? so it's a real fine line of rain in terms of where it is, where it's wet and where it's dry. here we are. this is for tomorrow afternoon. and you see the rain to the north. we're down further south. so you got some clouds and then you've got the system staying to the north. this is wednesday morning. morning commute wet in the north bay. but watch, watch the arrow and then watch what happens. not much goes through

san francisco. not much goes through the peninsula. there will be some and there'll be some scattered showers. but by wednesday afternoon, by the afternoon commute, it's still north bay centric. and then we push into thursday morning still kind of doing that. they'll be scattered showers on thursday, and then it starts to push north on friday afternoon. or pardon me, thursday afternoon. so what's going on? we're all going to get a little bit of rain a little bit everybody south of the san francisco golden gate bridge. but everybody north has the potential to get quite a bit of rain over the course of a 36 hour, 48 hour period. so we'll time it out for you. but that's the story. you're going to hear a lot more about this. and the best thing is tomorrow night we'll come back at this time and we'll have a chance to really dial it in, because the models will be all up to speed and have a chance to sort of see what this thing looks like, because it's going to be right on top of us tomorrow night. going into wednesday morning. all right. >> we'll see you in just a bit. first, the cold and then the rain. as bill said, really north of the golden gate could take a

big hit. ktvu is betty yu spoke with some residents there as they gear up for the cold, wet weather. this dormitory is full tonight. it's our 30 man dormitory, redwood gospel mission in santa rosa says it's the only emergency shelter in sonoma county. >> it partners with 30 churches in the region to accommodate as many people as possible. as the temperatures dip toward freezing levels monday night, the need for a warm place to stay becomes greater. >> it's nice and warm in your church. you. afterwards, you get a nice warm meal. >> mike swaim has spent the last month at the shelter and volunteers to serve others. >> it feels good because i'm the one that hands out the clothes three days a week to them, so i make sure that they have extra clothes, extra warm socks. i have been out here during the day looking for a job. i have been wet every night. >> the nonprofit converts the chapel to an overflow room to fit up to 20 extra people. >> we're entering into winter and not only are we going to see are we seeing cold, but we're seeing torrential rains forecast. and those are just as dangerous, especially for people who think that they can find

shelter in a in a creek under a bridge. it could be life or death. we know we have. we have friends. we've lost people that we know. out in the cold. >> sonoma county is also home to many farmers. the cold conditions could be dangerous to animals as well as vegetation and crops. >> we're going to have very cold weather and then a lot of rain. so we prepare all the buildings, make sure they can be secured. that way our animals stay nice and warm during it. >> mike weber of weber family farms owns more than 300,000 chickens and a few hundred sheep that stay indoors. >> they've got a barn that they go into and they'll all huddle together and they've got lots of wool on them. the chickens are perfectly fine. we adjust the ventilation so we're pulling less cool air into the building. >> the freeze warning begins at midnight and runs until 8 a.m. on tuesday, before the atmospheric river is expected to move in tuesday night. in petaluma, betty yu ktvu, fox two news all right, you can keep track of the storm this week by

downloading the ktvu weather app to your phone. >> there you can find an interactive radar. it's a good one and a seven day forecast for the area where you live. we have an update now to a story we brought you last night. a stolen statue of the virgin mary has been found and returned to its owner, sacramento county sheriff's deputies picked up that statue tonight after it was taken from someone's yard saturday morning. according to reports, the statue was being sold through the website offer up. the owner of the statue says he found the listing himself and then alerted deputies to the home. >> he found it online last night, so that's why i tracked down the address and a couple friends helped me out. >> he did the right thing and alerted us and this is where we got involved. he didn't try to take action on his own, in his own hands. >> the owner waited outside the property for several hours as deputies waited for a search warrant. they ultimately arrested two people. a merced high school confirming that its girls volleyball team forfeited a cif playoff game over the

weekend because its opponent, san francisco waldorf, has a transgender athlete on its team. stone ridge christian high school cited religious beliefs and says it does not believe sex is changeable. stone ridge christian did send a statement to ktvu saying we will always stand for biblical truth and what is right. girls must compete against girls for fairness, safety and truth. the cif could possibly penalize stone ridge due to that forfeit. another tragic boating accident near bodega bay. for the third time this month, a boat capsized. as ktvu zac sos reports in this latest incident, five people were on board. one person has died. the four others were rescued and taken to the hospital. >> when these calls come out, it is an all hands on deck approach. >> monday afternoon, the sonoma county sheriff's office fielding a call of boaters in distress just north of bodega bay, and that boat capsized with five people on board. a massive rescue effort launched just

before two in the waters off salmon creek beach. sheriff's deputies, county firefighters and the coast guard on the ocean while overhead, a chp helicopter. >> four people were able to make it to shore and were transported for medical treatment. >> a fifth person aboard, apparently also able to make it to shore, but they didn't survive. >> despite everybody's best efforts to save that person, they didn't make it. >> it marks the third fatal boating accident near the community of bodega bay this month. six people went into the water during a family crab fishing trip on november 2nd. only a 13 year old boy survived. just two days later, another boater was killed and a second remains missing after their boat also capsized in rough seas and windy conditions. >> when you get these accidents, especially three in such a short period, especially when people don't survive, it definitely takes a toll on you. it's very, very difficult, especially when younger folks are involved. >> investigators are still

trying to determine what caused this latest boating accident, but urging those heading out to sea to check conditions ahead of time and to wear a properly sized and rated life vest. >> when you're wearing a life vest in that manner, it increases your chances of survival if you do go into the water. the initial reports were that some folks were wearing life vests and some were not, and just up the road we saw investigators still working on the beach to try to get that boat towed away. >> as for the people aboard, still unclear who they were and what the conditions of those four people who survived are at this moment. we're hoping to learn more tomorrow in bodega bay. zac sos ktvu fox two news. >> and this past weekend, really a very busy one for water rescues. the coast guard pulled 16 people during five separate rescues. all were right here in the bay area and monterey. friday. three people were rescued from a grounded boat in san pablo bay on saturday. monterey coast guard rescued a

diver and then yesterday, five people were rescued when their boat became disabled west of keyhole beach. also yesterday, three people were rescued from a disabled boat near t reyes. new at 1police in vallejo still investigatin n investigating a shooting that killed two men. officers responded to aol vehicle crash on yorkshire court aroun 9:00 last night, and found the man inside tehle with gunshot wounds. paramedicie to revive them but both were pronounced dead at the scene. the motive and circumstancessuot yet known, and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact vallejo police. a las vegas family fighting for justice after a home invasion call turns deadly with the homeowner in tonight's west coast rap. the accusation against police and then a delivery truck stolen. but the employees still inside the surveillance video that captured the entire incident. >> plus, keep a reminder for those that may be needing a little extra help during the holidays, inspiring the bay area on and off the field.

community and he wants to give back. he says he has much to be grateful for and wants to make sure families in need get help. reporter a food donation was a ticket for 49ers fans to meet the team's defensive star linebacker, fred warner, in walnut creek. hi. what's up man? how you doing? it's the third annual food drive by finardi serrata, a law firm that partners with the team. and it's the second time warner has participated in the event doing the food drive. >> being able to provide for the food bank and people in need, i think is important. not only just during the holiday season, but year round. >> all donations benefit the food bank of contra costa and solano county. the first 100 fans to arrive received an autographed photo. hi. hello. >> how are you doing? wonderful. >> i like your hat. this fan from san jose was first in line. she tells me she took the day off from work and arrived here at 6 a.m. >> one of my favorites. i think he has great energy. he makes football more fun to watch, and

that having warner at this event helps increase awareness to the issue of hunger. warner says he's grateful for the long line of fans who came to see him and donate. reporting live, amber lee, ktvu, fox two news. >> newly released body cam video shows the moments leading up to a deadly police shooting inside a las vegas home. this story does begin. tonight's west coast rap. an officer shot and killed a man who called police for help at his home. >> metro police. metro police. >> hey hey hey hey hey, drop the knife! drop 2030. >> police! say the man was wrestling with a woman struggling over that knife. and that is when police opened fire, killing the man. police say they are investigating. the man's family is calling for the officer who shot him to be arrested. >> that officer had a chance now to make a decision. he offered a verbal command, but without giving anybody an opportunity to comply. he immediately directed force at the person that in our

view, was clearly the resident. >> in addition to the arrest. the attorneys called for the entire case file to be turned over to their office, including the full video before and after the shooting. the suspect accused of breaking into the home was initially booked for a home invasion and assault. she could face an additional charge of involuntary manslaughter. in oregon, cameras were rolling when a delivery truck was stole, with the employee inside. investigators say it all happened friday south of portland. someone hopped in the driver's seat of the truck and then took off just as workers were loading items in the cargo area, police officers say one of their patrol vehicles was rammed by the truck when they caught up with it. the suspected thief was eventually caught and arrested. he is facing multiple charges, including hit and run. tonight, the pacific northwest, preparing for a very strong winter like storm that is sweeping across the region really all of this week. cameras capturing crews already responding to spinouts in the mountains southeast of seattle earlier today.

sonoma county water agency says it will begin lowering its rubber dam on the russian river near forestville tomorrow. the agency usually lowers the dam so it does not get damaged when the river flow starts to rise during big storms. bill martin, back with us. russian river. that could be a hot spot. they could get a lot of rain there. yeah, absolutely. >> that drainage basin could get loaded up. we're not too worried about flooding or anything like that because it's early the time of year. right. but the

rainfall, listen, maybe a half foot of rain. that's big. it's big. so this is an atmospheric river. that's how they set up, basically. right. you get that big low up there and it's a big low. but it's you know, it's essentially an atmospheric bomb. we talked about that. but it's in the northern part of the western united states. so in other words, it's not going to mess with us too much. we'll have breezy conditions. it's going to be about a bunch of wind for oregon and washington, as we were just saying. big storm as well. but for us, this system comes through. here it is. the line is going to be i-80 or take the golden gate bridge north. that's where the big rain is. everything south like san jose, san jose may get. we could see a half foot of rain in marin county and we could see san jose with a quarter of an inch. by the time we get to saturday morning. good. so here's the fire hose, if you will, the atmospheric river shows up. this is 8 a.m. on wednesday. see how it stands. just staying above above i-80. it clips through san francisco a little bit, but not enough to really do a lot. at least that's what this model is saying. and then we go into thursday morning and then

thursday it's really centered on the north. and then it starts to pull out on thursday after evening. so this is also shows you what that same thing but differently. this is the rainfall estimated accumulations. but just look at the colors right. so there's the big rain golden gate bridge north san jose. they're estimating a 10th of an inch of rain by by thursday night. and nearly a half foot of rain up by sebastopol by thursday night. so that's not very far. you know, 6070 miles difference. and you've got the difference of five, six inches of rain in a short amount of time. so yes, the north bay is going to get a bunch of rain that could change. but we will let you know if it does. right now that is the consensus of the models. breezy conditions though we could see a wind advisory certainly on wednesday afternoon and wednesday evening. that's the forecast model. there's the golden gate bridge. there's the atmospheric river. that's awesome looking, isn't it? that's what we need. and again, is this unusual? no, this is what happens. this is this is we used to call it the pineapple express. right. coconut

connection. whatever the different terms we used to use back in the 80s. but this is the same thing, right? it's just a lot of rain coming our way. it's a warm storm, so snow levels will be pretty high. and we'll be looking at the potential for some snow showing up, probably on friday into saturday in the mountains as it snow. it gets colder air at that point. >> all right. busy week ahead. thank you bill. calls for embattled san mateo county sheriff christina corpus to step down are growing louder with multiple lawmakers from the peninsula area now asking her to step down. california assembly member diane papin, one of five peninsula area lawmakers who signed a letter demanding the sheriff resign in addition to papin, the letter was signed by congressman kevin mullin, congresswoman anna eshoo, state senator josh becker, and assembly member marc berman. >> i think that the sheriff needs to start putting the residents of san mateo county first. they didn't sign up for this chaos. >> an independent report released last week found evidence the sheriff allegedly abused her power, used racist

and homophobic language while at work, and had an improper relationship with a subordinate. supervisors have previously called on the sheriff's ouster, and in a statement tonight, sheriff corpus said, i am disappointed but not surprised that more elected officials have decided to pile on me and my office to the people of san mateo county. i want to make it clear i am not going anywhere. you elected me to be your sheriff, and i intend to continue the hard work of reforming this office and keeping this community safe. sunnyvale, one of the safest cities in the bay area. but new data shows a steady rise in crime over the past ten years. the police union releasing state data showing that violent crime in sunnyvale rose nearly 60% over the past ten years, most recently from 2022 to 23. the data shows violent crime, including rapes, robbery and aggravated assaults increased by more than 15%. >> i have parents that are older. my mom lives in the area,

so i think about that just like, gosh, i hope she's paying attention and just talking to her about that to be more aware. >> sunnyvale says it has added new public safety officer positions to this year's budget and is also now using tools including license plate readers. tonight, members of bay area's civil rights groups gathered to discuss their response to the november election. the commonwealth club in san francisco hosted the community town hall, called preparing for 2025. leaders from bay area lgbtq organizations took part in several panel discussions on topics including immigration and trans youth and families. speakers also noted the political shifts are also having an impact in california, where progressive measures, including changes to rent control and an increase to the minimum wage were defeated in our state, we couldn't pass the increase of minimum wage. >> we couldn't repeal, you know, rent control issues. we couldn'.
