「ガジェット速報」のことを。
アメリカではただのまとめブログに過ぎなかった「BuzzFeed」や「ハフィントンポスト」に数百億、数千億の値がついた不思議な時代だった。
それもこれもスマホの普及とともに会員数を爆発的に伸ばしたSNSのおかげ。
Twitterやフェイスブックでバズるのは、誰かの投稿した画像や動画と、それを取り上げたニュースサイトの記事ばかりだったから。
遠く離れた極東の島国、ここ日本でもまとめブログ、まとめサイトに億の値がつき、企業に買収されるところが相次いだ。今では閉鎖したテッククランチの日本語版の”スタートアップ”欄はそういうサイトの売却記事ばかりだった。英語版はデバイス系のスタートアップがめっちゃ多かったのに。
ヨッピーに叩かれて売却ゴールを決められなかったバズニュース、無責任な医療記事で炎上したwelq、買収後にグーグルのページランクの評価基準の変更でボロボロになった転職アンテナが日本のスタートアップ界隈で話題になっていたのもこの頃だった気がする。分かる人がいたらコメント頂戴。書き換えるから。
当時のガジェット系のニュースサイトは２ちゃんねるのまとめブログ発だったので嫌韓が多かった。日本勢のスマホや半導体事業がボロボロになるなか、価格と性能、そして安定性で圧倒していた韓国のスマホや、躍進が止まらなかったサムスン、LGの半導体事業をフェアに取り上げていたのがここだったと思う。とはいえ、速報性、網羅性ではsmhn.infoのほうが良かったと思うけど。
そんなガジェット速報は日本の半導体について取り上げた記事がバズった（３０万PVくらい）ことで、メディア化に乗り出した。将来的にはサイトの売却も視野に入っていたと思う。

ギズモードだか、ハフィントンポストだったかで記事を書いていたライターや、日経新聞で働いていた人も転職してきたよね。
読者からもライターを募って記事数を増やそうとしたけど、記事のパクリが判明し炎上。ブロガーじゃなくて読者から引っ張ってきたもんだから、一つ、２つ記事を書いて終わるようなやつばかりで記事の質、量が全然足りなくてニュースサイト化は失敗した。
いつのまにかGGSOKUという名前に変わっていた旧ガジェット速報は、クーロンという名前の人工知能を搭載したコメントシステムを売り込む企業になっていた。スポーツ新聞のウェブサイトでよく見かけた。僕が憶えている範囲だとスポーツ報知とかね。
だけど事業継続が難しい、とかそんな注意書きがついて、半年ぐらいでそのコメント欄（クーロン）は使えなくなって、ウェブサイトのリニューアルを期に撤去された。ちなみに、そのコメント欄に書き込んだユーザーを僕は見たことがなかった。そういうコメントは今も昔も人の多いYahooニュースや、手軽に使えるTwitterのほうに書き込むもんね。
この頃、WEBメディアで記事を書いてた人は退社してTwitterにスタートアップはもういい、とか書いてた気がする。日経の人も転職してた。
そんなころに佐藤由太がnote.muに投稿したのがこの記事だ。

彼みたい人は当時ネットにたくさんいて、その後はみんなユーチューバーになって、プログラミングスクールを勧めるようになった。手垢のついた情報商材でも、”プログラミングスクール”と言い換えるだけでヒットした。「PCならMacBookがおすすめです！MacBookならMacOSとWindows、両方動きます！」なんてね……。勧めてる理由はWindowsPCよりも単価が高くて、アフィリエイトでちゃりんちゃりんできるからなんだけどね。教材だってプログラミングスクールで使っている教材のコピペでいい。実際、そういうサイトがあって炎上してた。そこからプログラミングスクールに入ってプログラマーになって成功したという人を僕は知らないけど、そうやって夢見せる仕事をやっていればラクして今頃はお金もちになれたのにね。
