This shovel is amazing. It's strong, uncomplicated, and clever. I edged my lawn in a snap
, used it to dig a hole for a pond, and dug up some invasives without worrying that it would bend or break. The edge is sharp and cuts through turf like a hot knife through butter. I like the big handle and the platform to step on is a nice size. I'm finding all kinds of jobs for it. A very useful tool and worth the cost.

This is to replace my worn out spade that has several cracks and openings in the spade metal. THIS shovel has thicker metal in the shovel, has a longer handle and a the loop at the end of the handle is great to use. I have never had a tool with this feature and I will look for it when I buy other tools because of the versatility it provides in use. I have not used this one a lot yet, but it feels so much better that I will use it even more than the old shovel because it looks more rugged, the spade is a bit larger which will be nady for all the trimming i do, and the longer handle will make it much easier and comfortable to use.

When you need it, you'll need it

A perfectly flat and straight, squared-off blade. Very well-built for home/garden use. Found I could use the shovel to scrape off a think layer of soil in one place and use that dirt to fill in a ditch elsewhere. Also good to shovel-off you-know-what from your front yard.

Because of its straight, thin-ish blade it can be used to cut off weed and grass ingrowth into the mulched areas around newly-planted small trees. Could also be used for edging lawns.

Bought it because I saw a video where it was used to slash, or cut into the soil deep enough to make a, slim crevice that would be wide enough to bury a low voltage wire - all without digging a more labor intensive ditch which would also take time to backfill. The idea is that you stand on the shovel until it's been pushed all the way down, then wiggled a bit to widen the top surface opening. This is a clever idea if your soil is naturally soft. But, if your soil is anything like mine with hard clay appearing 6-8 inches below the surface, this probably won't work - it's too hard to push the shovel's blade down all the way. However, a few days after a long, hard rain might make all the difference even for challenging soils.

You may not use this one too often, but when you do it's the perfect tool to use. One of those specialized tools that's nice to have if you don't mind spending the extra money. It might stand in the corner of my garage for another 2-3 years before I reach for it again.

Does well what I bought it for

I needed a shovel to excavate my grass so that I could put in a garden. With a lot of manual labor, this is the right shovel for the job. It does it better than other shapes of shovels I tried. Its flat edge cuts grass like lasagna into manageable squares and, with some effort, scoops the sod up as I transition from vertical cuts to horizontal scraping of the earth. It cuts through the roots with some effort. I've owned it for a couple of months, so I can't speak about its durability over time. So far, the quality of its construction has impressed me. I've used it enough to find it sturdy in how it's built. If I'm wrong in the long term, I'll amend my comments.

A better than average straight edge shovel.

I am impressed with this Friskars straight edge shovel. It is high quality and is strong. I have owned other straight edge shovels than bend when trying to removed dirt or other things. This shovel is strong and does not bend like other inferior brands. The other thing I like is the handle with the grip versus the common handle. I find this a better design for the user. Bought and never regretted it. Highly recommended.

Just received this in the mail today. Have not put it to use yet but its a good height/length for a square shovel and its built properly and has nice weight to it. It does feel like a lifetime shovel BUT the handle does look like something that could potentially down the line break off which isnt that bad cause those are easily replaced. The rest of it is built solid like unbreakable pretty sure its all welded together as one unit which is fantastic. I am a landscape contractor hope to use this shovel to edge garden beds with
