I am extremely pleased with my purchase of the Arlo Essential wired video doorbell! I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this product. Price was a factor, but quality and available features made the Arlo Essential the best choice for me. The kit includes everything you could possibly need to install your new Arlo doorbell the right way. The instructions are great also. The only thing I wish Arlo would mention is that the battery within the doorbell may need overnight to recharge in order for the light to begin working. I was a bit nervous about it, but I read many of the links on troubleshooting and discovered that others had the same issue. And to my joy I woke up to an illuminated doorbell early the next morning. The doorbell has performed excellently since installation. The video is wonderfully clear, as is the sound. I linked the Arlo to my smart hub and to my smart speakers and displays. I get a clear "there's someone at the front door" every time the button is pushed. And of course were notified on each of our smart phones when someone or something comes in view of the doorbell camera or if someone presses the doorbell button. The 180° view and package detection are two of the other cool features that made my decision to buy the Arlo Essential over the other brands. The expert reviews also state that the "bubble" effect of the camera is much less prevalent on the Arlo. I'm very pleased with the view that I'm getting from it. Most cameras and doorbells have the ability to select zones of sensitivity, as does the Arlo. You can even customize your alerts based on your preferences, which is really convenient. There's an alarm feature to deter suspicious persons, and a quick dial 911 button in the app. This app and video doorbell are packed full of great features and performance. I told them that the doorbell was out of warranty and I would be willing to pay if I could get the damaged front replaced. The support individual was super nice and said he was willing to see if the support team would consider a one time courtesy replacement for my damaged doorbell, even though it was out of warranty. Arlo is awesome! They are sending a new doorbell and all I have to pay is shipping! Now……that’s great customer service!

After reading all of the negative reviews, I opted to order the Arlo Wired Video doorbell anyway. We had a Ring, and it was terrible. If you haven't figured it out yet, Ring can be easily defeated and no one would know where your package went. Many times things showed up on the door without warning. Stuff could just as easily disappeared without knowing.

Back to Arlo.

Pros -
Excellent recording and minimal gaps - less than 3 seconds. (Ring was over 90 second gaps.)
Much better field of view. You can see from the floor to the ceiling on the porch.
Much clearer imaging, even when zooming in.
Far superior communication with my I phone.
Much easier to stop the notifications of every car that drives by. While it still records and stores the video, you do not get notified every time. I set the field to only notify when a person gets close to the porch.
If someone rings the doorbell, my phone rings. No delay in that notification. I can then speak to whom ever is at the door, whether I am home or not. No need to open the door to tell solicitors to leave. Arlo even has a siren. It is a bit cumbersome to set off, but would definitely tell a solicitor that you are not interested!

Cons -
The biggest complaint I have about the Arlo doorbell, and the reason for the 4 star review, is the mounting bracket. It fits the doorbell like a skin, leaving no room for error with screws, or placement for the wire. If you have a small amount of wire tucked behind the doorbell, or the screws are not perfectly seated, you will fight to get the doorbell into the mount. This could be easily remedied if they made some space in the bracket to allow for for mounting inconsistencies. The other issue with the mounting bracket is that it is plastic. This also causes mounting problems. If everything is not exactly plumb and square, like one screw to tight, getting the doorbell into the bracket is difficult. Being plastic, and tightening a screw to mount to a wall is just waiting for a failure. No room for washers, or mistakes here!

Delay in motion notification. While you always get the notification and the complete video, it is not instant. There is a few second delay between motion happening, and the notification arriving. If the button is pushed, there is no delay (see earlier comments).
It only takes a paperclip to remove the doorbell.

Summary -
While the Arlo Wired Video doorbell has a few flaws, it is far superior to the Ring v2 video doorbell we had. I like the look of the Arlo, just not the mounting. The rest of the cons are likely similar to all video doorbells on the market. Overall I am very satisfied with the purchase, and the results.

A few notes. I did upgrade the transformer to make sure that we had a solid 24vac to the doorbell. I added in an aftermarket mount to rotate the doorbell to a better field of view. There is a monthly subscription, but it is about the same cost as the annual one with Ring.

The night vision is very good.

I had bought the wired one (AVD1001) first since I had a working doorbell but the voltage in my transformer was not sufficient. Rather than finding, buying, and installing a new transformer, I bought this model. It works like a charm! It even charges the battery with my low (8V) doorbell transformer. No need to ever take it off and charge it which is WONDERFUL! Integrates easliy with Alexa and with my arlo base. Announces on my Alexa speakers that someone is at the door and I also get a a call on my phone.

After 1 year..motion/recording stopped working

After 1 year of using this Arlo doorbell, the motion detection and recording to feed stopped working. Mind you, I pay the monthly subscription. Chatted with the Arlo support and didn’t help me. Last option was to remove the doorbell, reset and reconnect to plan again. I mean, if I remove the doorbell, might as well change the doorbell, right? 🤷‍♀️
